FACTS & STATS: Site: Stevenson High School -- Lincolnshire, Illinois. 2005 Series Record: The teams have not met in 2005.

GAME NOTES: The Redhawks depend on Kevin Bell to score and play defense, and his performance usually dictates how well Naperville Central performs. They are not a one-man show, as Don Lambka and Brian Luth are physical players who should matchup well with the Romans. Goalie Corey Stein has continued to improve and is smart in the net and with the ball, while Pat Leclair and Ryan Alberts have both speed and the ability to score. Dan Li's speed and Scott Fleming's shooting ability complete the Redhawks starting lineup, while Doug Mikita and Brett Lullo provide the team with valuable minutes off the bench.

Latin showed that they can perform well on the main stage last year, as they knocked off both Homewood-Flossmoor and New Trier to finish third in 2004. Most of that team is back, with goalie Henry Fyfe and Jordan Himmel leading the way for the Romans. Stephen Wickes has emerged as a strong leader for Latin, while Jamie Friedland is versatile and plays well on both the offensive and defensive ends for head coach Vaughan Smith. Freshman Grant Wilkie's impact has given the Romans some immediate help in the starting lineup, while Sam Kettlewell does a ton of little things to help Latin win. Freshmen Tim Wickes and Connor Allen can contribute off the bench for the Romans, who play exceptionally well together as a team under Smith.

The matchup pits the speed of Central against the physical play of Latin, and whoever wins that battle will end up as the winner. Latin emerged at state last year to finish in third place, and there is no reason to believe they won't do just as well if not better this year with the talented freshmen pitching in. As long as the Romans can contain Bell, they should advance to the Final Four in a close game.
