Mundelein at Evanston

By Aaron Brown

Evanston, IL -- Anna Ditton scored six goals and Lanier Zimmer held Mundelein to only one goal in the first half, as Evanston knocked off Mundelein 11-4 on Thursday night. It was the sixth straight win for the Wildkits, who are on a roll heading into the final week of the season.

Evanston jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter, as Ditton and Amy Reams each scored twice in the opening frame. Maggie Hatcher also pitched in with a goal and Alex Wich scored on a powerplay to round out the first period scoring. Mundelein got on the board in the second quarter, as Jordan Jaeckel cut the lead to 6-1. But Ditton responded for the Wildkits, adding her third goal of the first half to make it 7-1 at halftime.

Laura Eder scored her first goal in the early stages of the third quarter to extend Evanston's lead to 8-1. Dhara Pandya answered for the Mustangs with a breakaway goal, but Ditton scored her fourth from two meters out to extend the Evanston lead to 9-2. Callie Andrysiak scored a powerplay goal for Mundelein with 2:16 remaining in the third quarter, and Erica Garza made it 9-4 with a lob shot over Zimmer for her first goal.

That was as close as Mundelein would goal, as Ditton scored twice more in the final period, with both goals coming from two meters out. Ditton scored six times in the game for the Wildkits, while Reams had two and Hatcher, Wich, and Eder all had one goal apiece.

Mundelein, playing without hole set Maggie Gates and goalie Liz McClure, got one goal apiece from Pandya, Andrysiak, Jaeckel, and Garza. The loss dropped the Mustangs to 15-10 overall on the season.
