      Mundelein lost to Stevenson in
a shootout at Lake County in March. |
Lincolnshire, IL -- One of the
biggest and most awaited games of the 2004 season is scheduled for
Thursday night, as #11 Mundelein travels to #5 Stevenson to try and beat
the Patriots for the first time in their last six tries. This could be a
preview of next weekend's sectional championship game, as they are the top
two seeds at the Vernon Hills sectional.

      Stevenson has been struggling
recently, losing twice at their own tournament last weekend. They escaped
with a 11-10 win over #13 Waubonsie Valley on Tuesday, but they fell to #8
Latin last night 5-4. Meanwhile, the Mustangs have had a chance to gear up
for this rivalry game, as they beat #19 McHenry last Tuesday before before
having a week to prepare for the Patriots.
      -
      Stevenson has beaten Mundelein
twice this season and has also won the last six contests between the two
teams. They are led by driver Steve Michelau, but will be without the
services of driver Alan Lagunov. They will need a few other players to
step up, including Mike Hall, Damon Smith, Mike Terchin, Kevin Alland, and
Ryan Calacci. George Renfrew and Brian Mitchell may both see time in goal
      for the Patriots.

      Meanwhile, Mundelein is
anchored by standout goalie Andrew Peterson. As a sophomore, he ranks as
one of the top goalies in the state and will look to shut down the
perimeter attack of the Patriots. Mark Schuessler, Richard Ochab, and Greg
Peck provide the offense for the Mustangs, while sophomores Sean Larson,
Mark Selle, and Geoff Schott could play a big role in this game as well.

The game will be televised on
May 3 as Comcast's 'Game of the Week' as our site helps provide color
commentary for the action tomorrow night.
