Game Preview

Fenwick (29-0) enters the state tournament with a perfect record after beating rival Oak Park 10-4 at the York sectional. Emily Bonk is the leading scorer for the Friars, while Liz Perry and Farren Rixter make Fenwick the most dangerous team at Stevenson High School this weekend. Mary McCarthy is tough on defense, while Erin Foley was selected as our Illpolo Goalie of the Year for her performance in 2004. Alison Pavlik and Keely Baldwin fill out the lineup for the Friars.

Stevenson (26-6) advanced to state with a come-from-behind 9-8 win over Mundelein at the Vernon Hills sectional. Keely Wimer and Terri Bukofzer are a solid combo that are highly effective on both offense and defense. Katie Michelau, Sam Gibson, and Jesse Shopiro have speed and can add offensive support to the Patriots, while goalies Kirsten Kranberg and Jessica Flor are solid in goal. Stevenson also has strong depth and a solid bench, as players like Cara Amhaus, Aubrey Wanland, and Sarah Boedecker can also contribute on both ends.

The Friars won all three meetings with the Patriots in 2004, winning tournament games at Fenwick and Mundelein, then winning a close 8-5 game at Stevenson later in the year.
