BOYS' Sectional Quarterfinal Ballers

 

The following list of 'Ballers' is comprised of players whose performances stood out in Thursday's quarterfinal games. The list is broken down into three groups (see below for complete descriptions):

 


 

STAYIN' ALIVE

The following players helped lift a team seeded third or lower advance to play another game in the state playoffs:

 

Aaron Katz (Naperville North)

Katz recorded 6 goals to help Naperville North outlast STC North 17-11 on Thursday.

 

Alvaro Ajredini (Von Steuben)

Ajredini totaled 7 goals to lift Von Steuben past Juarez 15-8 at the UIC Sectional.

 

Andre Degla/Phil Schroeder (Fremd)

Degla and Schroeder combined to score 7 goals in Fremd's 12-6 victory over Hoffman.

 

David Hir (Lockport)

Hir scored 9 goals, including the game-winner with ten ticks remaining in regulation, as Lockport beat Andrew 10-9.

 

David Graveline (Hinsdale Central)

Graveline helped the Red Devils' upset Waubonsie 12-10 with a solid 4-goal performance on Thursday.

 

David Mora (Young)

Mora led the Dolphins to a 12-6 victory over Northside on Thursday night at UIC.

 

Drew Stoffel/Pat McHale (Stagg)

The Chargers' duo each scored 4 goals in a 21-13 victory over St Rita.

 

Ian Kinsella (Libertyville)

Kinsella scored the game-winning goal in the fifth overtime to help the Wildcats advance to the semifinal round with an 8-7 win over Wheeling.

 

John Gutierrez/Peter Blume (St Patrick)

Gutierrez and Blume combined to score 8 times as St Pats defeated R-B 13-4.

 

Tyler Stone (York)

Stone helped lead York past Morton 8-7, scoring all but one of the Dukes' goals in the win.

 


 

TAKIN' CARE OF BUSINESS

The following players helped one of the top two seeds get the job done and move on to the semifinal round:

 

Bradley Mueller/Brayden Amendola (St Ignatius)

Mueller and Amendola registered 4 goals apiece as the Wolfpack beat Lane 18-7.

 

Caleb Peterson (H-F)

Peterson helped lead the Vikings 21-11 win over LWN with a 7-goal performance.

 

Drew Schmitt/Andrew Hertel (McHenry)

Schmitt and Hertel each tallied 4 goals in an 18-4 victory over Buffalo Grove on Thursday evening.

 

Igor Gryniv (GBS)

Gryniv poured in 7 goals as GBS earned a 21-7 victory over GBN on Thursday night.

 

Kamil Mulawa (Palatine)

Mulawa totaled 7 goals in the Pirates' 21-4 victory over Lake Forest at the Vernon Hills Sectional.

 

Kevin Patterson (Neuqua Valley)

Patterson recorded 5 goals as Neuqua Valley earned a big 24-6 win over STC East on Thursday.

 

Kristian Altuve/Kyle Rickert (Naperville Central)

Altive and Rickert each tallied 4 scores as the Redhawks got past Metea Valley 20-2.

 

Mike Gergen (Schaumburg)

Gergen helped lead the Saxons to a 17-5 win over Prospect by scoring 7 goals.

 


 

VALIANT LAST STANDS

The following players did their best to help their team try to pull off an upset in the quarterfinal round:

 

Daniel Kubeck/Shane McDade (Wheeling)

Kubeck scored 4 goals and McDade made 23 saves and held Libertyville sans a goal through four overtime periods before Wheeling lost an 8-7 heartbreaker in sudden-death.

 

Erik Medina (DeLaSalle)

Medina totaled 3 goals as DeLaSalle hung tough but lost their quarterfinal game against Latin 11-6.

 

Josue Hernandez (Juarez)

Hernandez scored 5 times in a 15-8 loss to Von Steuben at the UIC Sectional.

 

Logan Gizel (Hoffman)

The Hoffman stopper made 18 saves and blocked 3 penalty shots, but the Hawks eventually fell to Fremd 12-6.

 

Joey Chokran/Justin Jacobson (STC North)

Chokran and Jacobson each scored 5 goals and helped STC North keep things close with Naperville North in the first half before falling 17-11 on Thursday.
