Week 3

 

The following is a summary of what took place during the third week of the season. This is not a complete list and we can only include a few people in this summary, but the purpose is to recognize a few of the best performances from each week.

Biggest Impact

BOYS

Antonio Reyes (Juarez)

Reyes scored the game-winning goal in overtime and scored 3 times in the extra session to lead Juarez to a 12-11 victory over Von Steuben on Saturday.

 

Justin Behrens (Palatine)

Behrens scored the game-tying goal in overtime and then tallied the game-winning score in sudden death to lead the Pirates to a 9-8 win over Wheeling on Thursday.

GIRLS

Alex White (Waubonsie Valley)

White provided the game-winner in the last minute of WV's 8-7 win over Naperville North. She also tallied 2 goals in the win for the Warriors.

 

Lizzy Kosin (Lyons)

Kosin scored 9 goals to lead the Lions in scoring in wins over #9 Stevenson, #13 Evanston, and #15 Waubonsie on Saturday at the Lyons Tournament.

Top Goalie Performances

BOYS

Dan Sommerfeld (Palatine)

The Pirates' goalie made 20 saves in a 9-8 victory over Wheeling in sudden death overtime on Thursday.

 

Robbie O'Connor (Loyola)

O'Connor totaled 12 saves in Loyola's 12-8 victory over New Trier last week.

 

Tom Meyer (Glenbrook South)

Meyer recorded 14 saves to help the Titans beat Loyola 9-8 on Tuesday.

 

GIRLS

Emily Tylka (Mundelein)

The Mustangs' goaltender stopped 13 shots in a 5-4 victory over Stevenson and totaled 12 saves, including three stops on breakaway opportunities, as Mundelein beat GBS 14-5.

 

Kristina Alexander/Meredith O'Brien (Loyola)

Alexander and O'Brien combined to provide the Ramblers with their first shutout in five years when they beat Boone 6-0 in Florida on Monday.

 

Biggest Surprises

BOYS

Maine East Surprises Evanston

The Blue Demons 13-12 win over Evanston in CSL play is their first-ever over the Wildkits and shows how much the team has improved in 2011.

 

Maine South Tops York

The Hawks improved to an impressive 9-2 record after beating York on Tuesday night.

 

GIRLS

Metea Valley Showing Positive Signs

The first year program already has three wins, while an 8-7 loss to Neuqua Valley and a 7-5 loss to Andrew shows that they can compete with several well-established teams.

 

News and Notes

Spring Break Still Lingers

The schedule is relatively light this week, especially on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; there are also only two tournaments next weekend, as several schools are not in session due to Spring Break.
