Week 1 Tournament Report

By Aaron Brown

While looking over the game recaps from this weekend, I realized that there is a TON of information covered, which is expected when there are 10 tournaments and over 100 games being played in the first weekend of the season. As a result, I've condensed the information to give you a better sense of what happened on between Friday and Saturday:

BOYS

Hoffman Tournament

Buffalo Grove bounced back from their loss to Schaumburg on Friday afternoon to top the Saxons in the title game of the Hoffman Tournament and claim the title. The Bison did have the lead in the first contest before Mike Gergen and Randy Carr combined to give the Saxons a 15-12 victory. The Saxons were without Gergen in the final game, which Buffalo Grove won 12-10. Both teams finished 4-1 at the tournament.

St Charles East finished in third place with a 3-1 record, falling to BG in the semifinals 11-7. Hoffman walked away with a 2-2 record and a fourth place finish, as they fell to Schaumburg 11-9 in the other semifinal game.

Naperville Tournament

Naperville Central went 4-0 over the weekend to continue their dominance over the area teams. Naperville North went 2-1-1, beating Metea and Neuqua and earning a 10-10 draw with Waubonsie. Neuqua beat Waubonsie 11-9 to finish with a 2-2 mark, while Waubonsie (1-2-1) earned their lone win over Metea.

Palatine Tournament

The stacked Palatine Tournament has been covered in detail (follow the link). The long and short of it is that St Ignatius went 4-0, earning wins Curie, H-F, McHenry, and Mundelein.

Curie and H-F finished in a 11-11 tie for second place. Palatine surprised McHenry, Mundelein, and Latin to grab fourth place, while Latin beat McHenry and New Trier to place fifth.

Stagg Tournament

Stagg went 4-0 at their tournament, ending the day with a 13-10 win over Young in the championship game. Young finished 3-1 to grab second place, while St Charles North beat Hinsdale Central 14-10 in the third place game and St Rita beat Bradley 9-8 for fifth place.

Highland Park/Deerfield Tournament

Highland Park/Deerfield won their own tournament over the weekend, finishing with a 3-0 record after wins over GBN, Barrington, and Elk Grove. GBN took second place, while Barringon beat Meadows in the third place game and Niles West beat Elk Grove to take fifth place.
