Week 7

Boys Tournament Report

By Aaron Brown

The Week 7 tournaments probably created more questions than answers, but here's a closer look at what happened over the weekend at Fenwick, GBS, and Metea Valley:

Fenwick Tournament

#1 Fenwick continued their perfect season after facing three difficult challenges over the weekend. They started the event with a 19-5 win over Oak Park, topped Mundelein 19-5, and beat Naperville Central 14-1 in their final game to win the event for the second straight year.

Meanwhile, the other three teams split their games and all finished with 1-2 records. Mundelein came-from-behind to beat Naperville Central 11-9 in the first game of the event for both teams. The Redhawks edged Oak Park 14-13 to bounce back from their earlier loss, while the Huskies were able to win their last game by a 10-7 margin over Mundelein.

GBS Tournament

The final round of the GBS Tournament proved to be especially competitive, with two of the three first place bracket games ending in draws. Palatine emerged with the tournament title after knocking off Naperville North 8-7 in the final game of the event; earlier, Palatine had tied the hosts 9-9 in the first game of the round, while Naperville North and GBS also ended their game in a 9-9 tie.

The fight for fourth place ended up leaving more questions than answers, as New Trier beat Evanston but lost to Libertyville, while Evanston also beat Libertyville in the first game of the round.

Lake Forest finished in seventh place after winning their bracket with wins over Hersey and Prospect.

Metea Valley Tournament

St Charles East escaped with the Metea Valley Tournament title after beating Bremen 10-8 in a game that would prove to be the tiebreaker between the two teams. Both the Saints and Red Jaguars went 2-1 at the event, with STC East earning wins over Bremen and Maine South, while Bremen beat the hosts and Maine South.

Maine South and Metea Valley both finished with 1-2 records, with the Hawks claiming third place by beating the hosts 11-8 in the tournament-opening game.
