State Quarterfinal Ballers

Thursday's selections for Ballers of the Week were chosen based on their performances on the biggest stage of the season...the state tournament:

Adrianna Izquerido (Mother McAuley)

Izquerido scored the game-winner in the fourth quarter of Mother McAuley's 3-2 win over Fremd on Thursday.

Annie Collins (Fenwick)

The Fenwick senior helped Fenwick reclaim the lead twice in the third period after H-F had tied the score in both instances, then sealed the Friars' 10-7 win over the Vikings with the final goal of the game.

Becky Insalaco (St Ignatius)

Insalaco was a force on the offensive end for the Wolfpack, scoring 4 times in a 10-6 victory over Loyola. She scored two goals in the first period to help the Wolfpack build an early advantage and scored a key goal after the Ramblers had cut the Ignatius' lead to one in the second half.

Cara Borkovec (Fenwick)

Borkovec scored a late goal in the opening period to get the Friars on the scoreboard after they trailed for most of the first quarter. She also added a quick goal to start the third period that helped Fenwick build a 4-2 lead after halftime.

Karen Lowry (Stevenson)

Lowry led the Patriots with 3 goals, including the eventual game-winning goal in Stevenson's 8-7 overtime victory over Naperville Central.

Lisa Michalowski (Stevenson)

Michalowski stopped 22 shots and was the backbone of a defense that didn't allow a goal in overtime in an 8-7 victory over Naperville Central.

Maggie Carey (Fenwick)

With Fenwick only leading by a goal in the fourth quarter, Carey stepped up and scored two straight goals to help the Friars secure a 10-7 victory over H-F.

Maureen Barron (Fenwick)

Barron recorded two key goals in the Friars' 10-7 win over H-F on Thursday. With the score tied at 1-1, she scored the first goal of the second period and also added a key goal early in the fourth quarter to help Fenwick pull away and advance to the state semifinals. She also won all four swimoffs in Thursday's game.

Vicky Arciniega (Mother McAuley)

Arciniega scored 2 goals and her near-miss led to a third score for the Mighty Macs as they held off Fremd 3-2 on Thursday night.
