WEEKLY RECAPS

THE ILLPOLO REPORT

Week 8

The following is a summary of what took place during the eighth week of the season. This is not a complete list and we can only include a few people in this summary, but the purpose is to recognize a few of the best performances from each week.

Players To Watch

BOYS

Danny Correa (Glenbrook South)

Jason Bartha (New Trier)

GIRLS

Drew Lecuyer (Bradley)

Jessie Cronin (Whitney Young)

For a complete description, see Players to Watch: Volume VIII

Biggest Impact Plays

BOYS

Adam King (Libertyville)

King's goal as time expired sent the Wildcats past Lane 6-5 and on to the championship round of the Conant Tournament on Friday night.

Peter Dore (Lyons)

Scored the game-winner to beat Fenwick. Enough said.

GIRLS

Tess Adamonis (H-F)

Adamonis scored the game-tying and game-winning goals in the Vikings' 8-7 overtime victory over LWC on Tuesday.

Top Goalie Performances

BOYS

Tom Meyer (Glenbrook South)

Meyer, a regular on this list, blocked 20 shots in the Titans' 13-10 overtime win over St Patrick on Monday, then totaled 10 saves in a 9-7 victory over Evanston on Tuesday.

Ryan Haman (Conant)

Haman allowed just 11 goals in 4 games to help the Cougars win their own tournament on Saturday. He also totaled 11 saves in an 11-3 title game win over Neuqua Valley.

GIRLS

Caitlin Parisi (R-B)

Parisi blocked 32 shots and amassed 17 steals as R-B won the Independent Tournament on Saturday. She also recorded a shutout win over Argo at the event.

Julia Campbell (Naperville Central)

The Redhawks' goalkeeper made 30 saves and allowed 5 goals in wins over #4 Fremd and #5 Mother Mcauley during Week 8.

Biggest Surprises

BOYS

Late Season Craziness

There were a handful of surprise results during Week 8. On Monday, Hinsdale Central beat Oak Park 13-11 to clinch second place in the WSC. LWE earned just their fifth win of the season when they beat Neuqua Valley on Wednesday. Bradley knocked Andrew out of contention for the SWSC Red title on Thursday. OPRF responded to their early-week loss by beating Naperville Central on Friday night. And for the biggest surprise of all, see below:

Lyons Ends Fenwick's 82-Game Winning Streak

It's normally not a major surprise when #2 beats #1, but since the eight-time defending champions haven't lost since early March of 2010 (82 games ago), we'll say that LT's 6-5 win over the Friars makes for a surprise. The two teams will likely meet again in the sectional finals if all goes according to plan. Don't miss that game!

GIRLS

Rockford Avenges Loss to Fenwick

Fenwick beat Michigan's top team 8-3 last weekend. So the Friars' 9-8 loss to the hosts in the Rockford Tourney title game came as a slight surprise on Saturday evening.

News and Notes

Co-Ed Tournaments Highlight Saturday Slate

Metea Valley and Stevenson both host four-team boys' and girls' events on Saturday; the Mustangs welcome Bremen, Barrington, and Elk Grove; the Patriots play host to LWC, Naperville Central, and Neuqua Valley.

Conference Tournament Weekend

The final weekend of the regular season concludes with four conference tournaments; the CSL, CPS, MCAC, and WSC all determine a champion via tournament on both Friday and Saturday.

MSL Titles On The Line

Fremd will take on either BG or Wheeling in the boys' title game on Wednesday, while the Fremd girls will look to defend their title against Wheeling on Thursday night.

Super Ballers

BOYS

Peter Dore (Lyons)

GIRLS

Emily Nowlin (Lake Forest)
