SUPER BALLERS

 

 

The top performers in the 2012 sectional finals earn Super Baller status for Week 10:

 

BOYS

Alex Shkiler/Robbie O'Brien (Stevenson)

Shkiler recorded 4 goals and O'Brien stopped 12 shots in the Patriots' 16-15 victory over McHenry in the final game of the Palatine Sectional.

 

Charlie Dowdle/Robbie O'Connor (Loyola)

Dowdle tallied 4 goals, including a key score in the fourth quarter, while O'Connor made 12 saves and blocked a shot at the buzzer of Loyola's 10-9 sectional final win over New Trier.

 

Dan Oldendorf/Dave Hir (Lockport)

As they have done all season, Oldendorf and Hir led Lockport on the offensive end, combining to register 6 scores in the Porters' 10-9 victory over H-F in the sectional finals.

 

Eric Curia/Michael Shabel (Naperville North)

Curia provided 8 goals and Shabel blocked 11 shots and also contibuted 3 assists as the Huskies advanced to state after beating Naperville Central 13-8.

 

Jacob Himmel (Latin)

The Romans' leading scorer netted 6 goals in a 14-10 victory over St Ignatius in the UIC Sectional final.

 

Joe Shannon/Kovas Zygas (Lyons)

Shannon and Zygas both scored 3 times in LT's 8-7 victory over York; Zygas handled the scoring early while Shannon tallied the game-tying and game-winning goals in the fourth quarter.

 

Matt Veldman (Sandburg)

Veldman led the Eagles with 3 scores, including a key goal (and 2 key steals) late in the fourth quarter, as Sandburg earned a trip to state by beating Stagg 11-10 on Saturday at the Stagg Sectional.

 

Max Plichta (Fremd)

Plichta blocked 40 total shots in wins over Schaumburg and Hoffman over the weekend, helping the Vikings earn their first-ever trip to the state tournament.

 

 

 

GIRLS

Abbey Kerth (Naperville Central)

Kerth totaled 15 goals in the Redhawks' victories over Metea and Neuqua Valley over the weekend, sending Central back to the state tournament in 2012.

 

Cara Borkovec (Fenwick)

Borkovec scored 4 times and assisted Haley Wickham on the game-winning goal in sudden-death overtime as Fenwick defeated Lyons 7-6 on Saturday at York.

 

Caroline Foglton/Danijela Jackovich (LWC)

Foglton made 9 saves and assisted Jackovich on the game-winning goal as LWC advanced to state by beating H-F 5-4. Jackovich led the offense with 4 goals in the victory.

 

Clare Bryar (Mother McAuley)

Bryar totaled 9 goals in wins over Richards and Sandburg over the weekend, propelling the Mighty Macs to the Stagg Sectional title and a state berth.

 

Erin McCook/Lisa Michalowski (Stevenson)

McCook poured in 6 goals and Michalowski made 15 saves in Stevenson's 10-4 triumph over Wheeling in the sectional final at Palatine.

 

Isabelle Baneaux (New Trier)

Baneaux scored 6 goals in the Trevians' 15-9 victory over Loyola in the GBS Sectional final and also tallied 4 scores in a 16-5 win over Evanston in the semifinal round.

 

Lauren Zambelli/Sam del Prado (Fremd)

Zambelli led the Vikings' offense with 3 goals while del Prado totaled 2 scores and 4 assists as Fremd defeated Barrington 11-3 to win the Schaumburg Sectional and advance to state.
