The following is a summary of what took place during the most recent week in water polo action in Illinois. This is not a complete list; the purpose is to recognize several of the best performances from across the state that have been reported.

Dan Magee (R-B)

Magee notched the game-winner in overtime of the Bulldogs' 11-10 win over Jones-Payton on Tuesday.

 

Garrett Allamian (STC North)

Allamian blocked a penalty shot in the fourth quarter of the North Stars' 8-7 win over Bradley at the Stagg Tournament.

 

Matt Flanders (Metea Valley)

Flanders scored with 0:19 left in regulation to help Metea Valley earn an 8-8 draw with Waubonsie Valley on Saturday.

 

GIRLS

Lexy Kos (STC East)

Kos scored the game-winning goal in sudden death overtime to lift the Saints over Lake Forest 13-12 on Saturday.

 

Top Goalie Performances

BOYS

Lane Holin (Stagg)

Holin blocked 32 shots and helped the Chargers finish with a 4-0 record at their own tournament over the weekend.

 

Walter Haracz (Loyola)

Haracz made 41 saves and allowed just 5 goals per game to help the Ramblers win the Palatine Tournament.

 

GIRLS

Emma Jeronimus (Fremd)

Jeronimus made 41 saves and allowed 4 goals per game as Fremd earned wins over Bremen and LWC and a draw with Loyola on Saturday.

 

Jordin Hale (Oak Park)

Hale made 29 saves, dished out 14 assists, and added 2 goals as the Huskies went 4-0 at the Northside Tourney.

 

Maddy Demaret (Conant)

Demaret stopped 39 shots, earned one shutout, and scored 2 goals as Conant won their own tournament on Saturday.

 

Biggest Surprises

BOYS

McHenry

The Warriors started their season with a bang, knocking off #4 St Ignatius in their first game at the Palatine Tournament on Friday night.

 

GIRLS

Glenbrook North

The Spartans kicked off the 2015 campaign with a win over #7 New Trier and finished the first week of the season with a 2-0 record.

Water Polo Returns!

A total of 14 tournaments and more than 120 games ended a hectic opening week of water polo in Illinois.

 

Wimer Wins #500

Stevenson head coach Jeff Wimer claimed his 500th career victory on Saturday at the Stevenson Tournament.
