THE ILLPOLO REPORT

Week 4

The following is a summary of what took place during the most recent week in water polo action in Illinois. This is not a complete list; the purpose is to recognize several of the best performances from across the state that have been reported.

Players To Watch

BOYS

Nick Jackson (Sandburg)

Eric Krawczyk/Steve Howell (Lockport)

GIRLS

Almasa Duheric (Lyons)

Hannah Jozefat (Palatine)

Biggest Impact Plays

BOYS

Eric Villasenor (Andrew)

Villasenor notched the game-winner to complete a T-Bolts rally that helped the team claim a 7-6 win over LWN.

Mitch Zieler (Sandburg)

Zieler connected on the game-winning goal in the late stages of Sandburg's 7-6 win over Lockport on Tuesday.

Nick Amendola (Stagg)

Amendola drew a foul and scored the game-winner on the ensuing shot as the Chargers edged Sandburg 8-7 on Thursday.

Top Goalie Performances

BOYS

Colin Hovorka/Mike Brennan (Andrew)

The T-Bolts goaltending duo combined to stop 9 shots in a 7-6 win over LWN on Monday and then saved 14 shots in a 14-8 victory over LWC on Tuesday.

Will Skowron (Fenwick)

Skowron blocked 9 shots and a penalty attempt in the Friars' 17-9 win over St Rita on Wednesday and teamed up with Mike Hill to blank Loyola in the second half of a 20-6 victory over the Ramblers on Monday night.

GIRLS

Betsy Zanocco (Meadows)

Zanocco rejected 44 shots for the Mustangs during Week 3, including a 21-save performance in a 6-4 win over Hersey on Monday night.

Maddy Demaret (Conant)

Demaret stopped 45 shots in wins over Barrington, Fremd and Mundelein and averaged 4 assists and 4 steals per game during the week.

Morgan Bartelment (Sandburg)

Bartelment totaled 34 saves and helped the Eagles finish Week 4 with a 3-0 record after wins over Lane, Lockport and Stagg.

Biggest Surprises

BOYS

Stagg

The closest thing to an upset this week was Stagg's 8-7 win over Sandburg, although it was the Chargers' second win of the season over a Top 10 team.

GIRLS

Lincoln-Way West

The Warriors surprised #19 Lincoln-Way Central to earn a 14-13 home victory on Thursday night in a key SWSC Red contest. The Warriors improved to 5-3 with their fourth win in a row.

News and Notes

Sectional Assignments Released

The IHSA announced the 2015 sectional assignments earlier in the week (March 31) as the boys and girls locations for the upcoming playoffs are set.

Easter Weekend Provides a Midseason Break

The fourth week of the water polo season wrapped up early this past Thursday with no games or tournaments scheduled for the weekend. From here, don't expect any more breaks as the next five weeks of the regular season and the two-week postseason should be explosive.

Super Ballers

BOYS

Nick Amendola (Stagg)

GIRLS

Carmen Rosas/Maddy Demaret (Conant)
