The following is a summary of what took place during the most recent week in water polo action in Illinois. This is not a complete list; the purpose is to recognize several of the best performances from across the state that have been reported.

Players To Watch

BOYS

Harris Dibek (Conant)

Nik Miklyukh (York)

GIRLS

Colleen Doyle (Prospect)

Jennifer Oliver (Naperville Central)

Biggest Impact Plays

BOYS

Sam Paloma (Niles West)

Paloma scored the game-winning goal with a quick shot from the left side of the pool as the buzzer sounded as the Wolves stunned Fremd 11-10 on Saturday.

Charlie Calvo/Cole Jacobs (Naperville North)

Jacobs scored from mid-pool in the final minute to get the Huskies within one before Calvo drilled the game-tying shot at the buzzer as the Huskies earned a dramatic 9-9 tie with New Trier.

Lucas Verelli (Evanston)

Verelli delivered the game-winner with two seconds left in overtime to send Evanston past Wheeling 7-6 on Saturday.

Shane Hughes (St Ignatius)

Hughes scored with six seconds remaining to help lift the Wolfpack over Loyola 11-10 at the Lyons Tournament.

GIRLS

Amy Rodriguez (Conant)

Rodriguez scored all three of her goals in overtime to help lead the Cougars past Hersey 7-4 on Wednesday.

Tara White (St Ignatius)

White scored the game-winning goal to send the Wolfpack past Fenwick 8-7 in an MCAC thriller on Wednesday.

Top Goalie Performances

BOYS

Brian Johnson (Glenbrook South)

Johnson made 36 saves and helped the Titans finish 3-0 at their own tournament after wins against Conant, HC and LWW. The goalkeeper allowed just 5 goals per game at the event.

Nick Rosenberger (Lyons)

Rosenberger made 35 saves and dished out 6 assists as the Lions won their own tournament with three straight wins over Loyola, St Ignatius and York. His performance comes one week after he won four games and allowed 6 goals per game as Lyons won the York Tournament.

Riley Byrne (Metea Valley)

Byrne blocked 22 shots to help the Mustangs fend off STC North 8-7 on Wednesday, which puts him in a second-place tie for most saves in a single game on the IHSA records list.

GIRLS

Abbey Hodges (Highland Park)

Hodges earned four wins and allowed four goals per game as the Lady Giants won the Deerfield Tournament after beating Northside, Latin and Whitney Young (twice).

Ellie Connors (Barrington)

Connors stopped 42 shots and helped the Fillies win their own event over the weekend; Barrington also finished the week with a 6-0 mark.

Emma Jeronimus (Fremd)

Jeronimus made 79 saves during Week 5 to help Fremd win their own tournament and finish the week with a 6-0 record.
