TOP BOYS' MATCHUPS OF 2015

The 2015 regular season features several important games that can either decide a conference title, determine postseason seeding for sectionals, or provide a preview of potential sectional final games.

Here is a list of some key dates that should be circled on the water polo calendar for 2015:

MARCH 9

#10 Brother Rice at #1 Fenwick
The Crusaders and Friars renew their Catholic League rivalry on opening night following a season when both teams qualified for the state tournament.

MARCH 10

#5 Lyons at #9 Oak Park

Who will gain the upper hand in the West Suburban Conference title race when these two familiar foes get their respective seasons underway in difficult fashion?

MARCH 25
#1 Fenwick vs #4 St Ignatius
Fenwick's chance for another perfect Catholic season could come down to this early-season contest with the Wolfpack. The Friars also eliminated SICP in the state quarterfinals last May.

MARCH 30

#1 Fenwick at #6 Loyola

The long-awaited rematch finally arrives at the end of the season's opening month, as the Friars look to avenge their state title game loss to the Ramblers in an important Catholic League duel.

MARCH 31 & APRIL 28

#20 Andrew vs #21 LWC

The T-Bolts will likely have to go through Lincoln-Way Central if they hope to repeat as SWSC Red champs in 2015, as the Knights have their sights set on capturing their first divisional crown.

MARCH 31 & APRIL 28

#8 Sandburg vs #12 Lockport

The Porters edged out the Eagles by one game in the SWSC Blue title race last season after the two teams split the regular season series. The title race could once again be decided by these two contests.

APRIL 16 & APRIL 21 & APRIL 28

#17 New Trier at #16 GBS; #17 New Trier at #13 Niles West; #16 GBS at #13 Niles West
The battle for the CSL South could boil down to these three contests in late April. The Trevians ran the table to claim the conference last year, lost the conference tournament to GBS, who then went on to lose to Niles West in the sectional semifinals. Got all that?

APRIL 9

#7 Naperville North vs #2 Naperville Central

The battle for supremacy in the Naperville area will carry on for the entire season, but this regular season matchup between the Huskies and Redhawks should be real indicator of who will be favored to advance to the state tournament when the postseason arrives.

APRIL 27

#4 St Ignatius vs #3 Stevenson
Expect a great late season battle between two state tournament hopefuls when Ignatius and Stevenson do battle in Lincolnshire on April 27.

APRIL 28

#5 Lyons vs #7 Naperville North
The Lions and Huskies have developed quite an interesting nonconference rivalry in recent years, so look for one of the season's most intense games late in the regular season in Naperville.
