TOP GIRLS' MATCHUPS OF 2015

The 2015 regular season features several important games that can either decide a conference title, determine postseason seeding for sectionals, or provide a preview of potential sectional final games.

Here is a list of some key dates that should be circled on the water polo calendar for 2015:

MARCH 9

#5 Mother McAuley at #1 Fenwick

The two Catholic League rivals waste no time mixing things up in an opening-night rematch of last year's state semifinal contest, which Fenwick won 12-8 en route to a state title.

MARCH 16 & APRIL 13

#13 Conant vs #11 Palatine

The Cougars won both regular-season contests against Palatine to claim the MSL West title in 2014, but the Pirates earned their revenge in the postseason by eliminating Conant in the sectional final round. Both of this year's regular season contests should be thrillers that once again help decide the divisional race.

MARCH 24
#1 Fenwick at #2 Stevenson
The top-ranked Friars travel to Lincolnshire to battle second-ranked Stevenson in a nonconference affair between two of the state title contenders.

MARCH 25
#4 St Ignatius at #1 Fenwick
Fenwick is back at it the next night when they play host to fourth-ranked St Ignatius in a conference game
that could help determine the Catholic League title race.

APRIL 1

#5 Mother McAuley at #4 St Ignatius

McAuley and Ignatius meet on April Fool's Day in a rivalry game that could have major implications on the Catholic League title race. The Wolfpack earned three victories over the Mighty Macs last season.

APRIL 6 & MAY 4

#14 Sandburg vs #17 LWE

The Griffins and Eagles finished with identical records atop the SWSC Blue standings last season, while the Eagles won both regular season games between the two teams. Expect things to be just as close when the two meet for a pair of games in the second half of the season.

APRIL 7

#2 Stevenson at #12 Mundelein
The Mustangs play host to their rivals in a North Suburban Conference matchup looking to avenge a trio of losses to the Patriots, who also eliminated Mundelein in the sectional final round.

APRIL 8

#6 Naperville Central at #3 Naperville North
Last year's sectional final between the Huskies and Redhawks ended with a buzzer-beater that sent North to the state tournament; things could be just as close this season between the two teams, so their regular season matchup in early April could provide a clear picture on who is the favorite to emerge from the Naperville area in 2015.

APRIL 14

#7 New Trier at #10 Evanston

The rejuvenated Wildkits will be hoping for a chance at the CSL South title at this stage of the season, but they will likely have to get past New Trier to do it, as the Trevians went undefeated in the division in 2014.

APRIL 14

#9 Oak Park at #8 Lyons

The West Suburban Conference title could be on the line in mid-April when Lyons plays host to rival Oak Park; the Huskies won the WSC in 2014 but lost a heartbreaker to the Lions in the sectional semifinals.

APRIL 27

#5 Mother McAuley at #6 Naperville Central
Mother McAuley makes their annual trip to Naperville to take on the Redhawks in a major nonconference test for both teams late in the season.

APRIL 28

#4 St Ignatius at #2 Stevenson

The Patriots play host to the Wolfpack in a nonconference affair between two teams hoping to play in the same pool a few weeks later at the state tournament.
