RIVALRY WATCH: BOYS

Last week, we focused on some of the most important regular season games that could have an effect on conference title races and sectional seeding. Next, we take a closer look at the calendar for ten additional matchups that feature some of the most heated rivalries during the 2013 season:

MARCH 5

Lyons vs Oak Park
The second day of the season features a West Suburban Conference grudge match between the defending champion Lions and one of their main conference title threats, Oak Park.

MARCH 11 & APRIL 9

Prospect vs Wheeling
If Prospect has hopes of getting into the thick of the Mid-Suburban League East title race, this pair of fixtures against former Co-op partners Wheeling (last year's MSL East co-champs) should prove vital.

MARCH 12 & APRIL 9

Fremd vs Palatine
The two Palatine-based teams meet twice in 2013 to fight for city-wide water polo supremacy and the hopes of gaining the upper hand in the Mid-Suburban League West title race.

MARCH 12 & APRIL 9

Hoffman vs Schaumburg
The heated rivalry between schools less than three miles apart continues as Hoffman and Schaumburg fight for bragging rights and a potential Mid-Suburban League West title later this year.

MARCH 12

Maine East vs Maine South
The Hawks have emerged as a serious threat to win the Central Suburban League title in 2013, but the Blue Demons have their sights set on improving on their 18-win season and could give South all they can handle in this early season battle.

MARCH 21

St Charles East vs St Charles North
Which team will gain the upper hand in the battle of St Charles teams in Week 3? East earned a 10-7 win last year, but the North Stars are on the rise and could turn the tables on the Saints in 2013.

APRIL 4

Mundelein vs Stevenson

If the Mustangs turn things around this season, this early-April matchup with nearby rivals Stevenson could prove to be vital in the North Suburban Conference title race and may also prove to be an eventual sectional final preview.

APRIL 8

Brother Rice vs St Patrick
The Catholic League rivals continue their historic rivalry in a game that should have major implications on the conference standings.

APRIL 9

Glenbrook North vs Glenbrook South
This early-April battle of Glenbrook teams is for more than just bragging rights as the teams have high hopes in the Central Suburban League in 2013.

APRIL 15

Evanston vs New Trier
The Wildkits could prove to be one of the last obstacles in the Trevians' quest to repeat as Central Suburban League champions in a rivalry where neither team has a problem elevating their game.
