RIVALRY WATCH: GIRLS

The following matchups showcase some of the most heated rivalries of the 2014 season:

MARCH 11

Hersey at Saint Viator
The two Arlington Heights-based teams square off on the second night of the season with bragging rights and a bright start to the season on the line.

MARCH 13

Whitney Young at Lane
The Dolphins edged the Indians by one goal in the CPS title game last year, so this Week 1 battle could tell us which team has the upper hand in what will likely be another tight conference battle.

MARCH 18

Maine South at Maine East
Both teams finished near the top of the CSL standings last season; the winner of this Week 2 contest could position themselves to challenge New Trier for the conference title in 2014.

MARCH 19 & APRIL 26

Hoffman vs Schaumburg
The Hawks went winless in the MSL West last season and would like nothing more than to knock off their nearby rivals when they meet in Week 2; the Saxons could also use the early season conference win as they hope to sweep the Hawks and make some noise in their division.

MARCH 27

St Charles East at St Charles North
The North Stars continue to rise up the water polo ranks, but they will have to be ready when their much-improved rivals come to their pool looking to pull off a Week 3 upset on March 27.

APRIL 2 & APRIL 23

Hersey vs Wheeling
The Huskies and Wildcats split last year's season series after two classic defensive battles and finished tied for the MSL East title with 9-1 records; expect more of the same in 2014 as both have their sights on claiming a spot in the MSL Championship game.

APRIL 7 & MAY 5

Lincoln-Way Central vs Lincoln-Way North
The Knights beat the Phoenix three times in 2013 by a slim two-goal margin in each contest, including a sectional final game that propelled Central to a runner-up finish at the state tournament last May. Expect North to be chomping at the bit to exact a bit of revenge when the teams meet twice in the regular season to possible decide the SWSC Red title.

APRIL 14

Hinsdale Central at Hinsdale South
The Red Devils have had the Hornets' number in recent meetings, but don't be surprised if Hinsdale South has a few tricks up their sleeve along to go along with the home-pool advantage when the teams meet in mid-April in a key West Suburban Conference fixture.

APRIL 15

Glenbrook North at Glenbrook South
Both the the Spartans and Titans have plenty of potential heading into the upcoming season; they should be primed and ready when April 15 rolls around and the two meet at GBS for their annual showdown. The Titans won last year's regular season contest 14-10 and finished one game ahead of their rivals in the CSL standings.

APRIL 22

Evanston at New Trier
By the time the Wildkits and Trevians meet in late-April for this key Central Suburban League contest, they could be fighting for the top spot in the conference. Expect a fierce effort from both teams either way when the teams meet up in Winnetka on April 22.
