Semifinal #1: Fenwick 16 St Ignatius 8

LINCOLNSHIRE, IL - Fenwick overcame a fast start by St Ignatius with a 6-0 second quarter run and advanced to the state title game for the seventh straight year after beating the Wolfpack 16-8 on Saturday morning. Matt Farmer scored 6 goals and Will Rigali added 4 scores for the Friars, who limited St Ignatius to just four goals in the final three periods.

The Wolfpack started the game off with a surprising 4-0 run, as Giuliano Wrobel scored two straight goals and Mark Alvarado and Kevin Barth also tallied goals in the first five minutes for St Ignatius. John Osborne's goal late in the opening period halted the run, but the Wolfpack still led 4-1 entering the second period.

That's when Fenwick took over, as Rigali scored three times and Farmer scored twice during a 6-0 second period run that gave Fenwick a 7-4 halftime edge. The Friars' defense was the key, as they were able to hold the Wolfpack without a solid scoring chance for most of the quarter.

The Friars were able to control the game in the second half, thanks in part to Farmer's four second-half goals and two key saves by goalie Dan Francisco. Alvarado and Brendan Moore were able to tally goals for the Wolfpack, but the Friars went ahead 11-6 as the teams headed to the final period.

Moore scored his second goal of the contest to close the gap to 11-7, but goals by Rigali, Osborne, Chris Dan,and Connor Brown extended the Fenwick lead to 15-7 and put the game out of reach. Matt Bresnahan and Jamie Juarez traded goals in the final minute of the game, as the Friars advanced to the state title game with a 16-8 win.
