Week 5

Girls Tournament Report

By Aaron Brown

There were a total of three tournaments and 37 games over the weekend on the girls' side. Here is a quick look at what went down in each tournament as Week 5 came to a close:

Barrington Tournament

Dana Andrea scored 4 goals and Anna Lebiedzinksi added 3 scores as Vernon Hills beat Barrington 11-8 in the tournament opener, a game that would eventually decide the event's title winner. Both teams finished with a 2-1 record, but the Cougars' opening-game win gave them the overall decision over the Fillies. Andrea totaled 11 goals and Lebiedzinksi finished with 7 scores as Vernon Hills also beat Lake Forest 12-7 before losing to Libertyville 9-6.

Barrington beat Libertyville 13-7 in the third game of the day, then outlasted Lake Forest 12-10 in a shootout to close out the event. Catherine Byron and Kate Luedtke both scored 7 times to help the Fillies finish with a 2-1 mark at their own tournament.

Lake Forest finished in third place, beating Libertyville 12-4 in the tiebreaking game (both teams ended the day with 1-2 records). Emily Nowlin totaled 21 goals over the weekend, including a 9-goal performance in the win over the Wildcats.

Libertyville earned one win on Saturday, as they beat the tournament-winning Cougars 9-6. Julie Ahlgrim and Sam Voelker each put in 4 scores in the win, while Voelker led the Wildcats at the event with a total of 8 goals.
