Week 1 Ballers

 

BOYS

Billy Barth/Shane Hughes (St Ignatius)

Barth and Hughes combined to score 23 goals on Friday and Saturday at the Palatine Tournament. Barth also scored 4 times in Monday's win over St Viator and Hughes notched 4 scores in a mid-week victory over Northside.

 

Connor Black/Jason Rehor (Mundelein)

Black registered 19 goals and Rehor added 14 scores as Mundelein beat Latin, drew with St Ignatius, and lost a heartbreaker to Curie at the Palatine Tournament.

 

Eric Curia (Naperville North)

Curia led all scorers with 15 goals at the Metea Tournament on Saturday to help the Huskies post a 4-0 record against the other Naperville-area squads to start the season.

 

Kristian Kalev (Palatine)

Kalev led the Pirates with 10 goals as they finished even with Loyola for second place at their own tournament to get the season started. Palatine beat McHenry and St Ignatius and also earned a draw with Loyola on Saturday afternoon. Kalev also scored the game-tying goal in the final minute of the draw with the Ramblers.

 

Ivan Ariza/Jeronimo Chavez (Curie)

Ariza and Chavez combined to score 23 goals for Curie as they finished the Palatine Tournament with a 3-1 mark after wins over H-F, Mundelein, and St Ignatius.

 

Robbie O'Brien (Stevenson)

O'Brien blocked 39 shots, allowed just 4 goals per game, and made a game-saving stop on a breakaway chance at the end of regulation in the title game of Stevenson's own tournament to help the Patriots beat Fremd in overtime and win the event.

 

Simon Shatinski (Neuqua Valley)

Shatinski scored the game-winning goal in a 9-8 win over Waubonsie Valley and led the Wildcats in scoring with 9 goals as they finished in third place at the Metea Tourney.

 

 

 

GIRLS

Alexana Astor (New Trier)

Astor led all scorers at the New Trier Tournament with 13 goals, helping the Trevians earn wins over Evanston, Saint Viator, and Sandburg.

 

Becky Insalaco (St Ignatius)

Insalaco registered 10 goals in the Wolfpack's perfect 3-0 start; SICP beat Northside, Saint Viator, and Whitney Young in the opening week of the new season.

 

Carmen Rosas (Conant)

Rosas poured in 16 goals during a three-game set that aided the Cougars in winning their own tournament on Saturday.

 

Evan Swenson/Marta Considine (Loyola)

Swenson scored 12 goals and Considine added 10 tallies as the Ramblers beat Bremen, Fremd, and Maine East over the weekend.

 

Leslie Calabrese (Naperville Central)

Calabrese led the Redhawks in scoring with 10 goals at the Naperville Tournament, including a 5-goal performance in a shutout of Waubonsie Valley and a team-leading 3 scores in a 12-6 victory over Neuqua Valley.

 

Paige Weiser (Marian)

Weiser recorded 33 goals in the opening week of the 2013 season, helping the Spartans earn wins over DeLaSalle, Hinsdale South, Northside, and St Viator.

 

Sam Klosak (Lincoln-Way North)

Klosak scored 6 goals in an 11-2 win over GBS, then netted 3 more goals in a pair of 3-2 wins over LWE and STC North to help the Phoenix win the Hinsdale Central Tournament.
