Week 7

 

The following is a summary of what took place during the seventh week of the season. This is not a complete list and we can only include a few people in this summary, but the purpose is to recognize a few of the best performances from each week.

Alex McCormick (LWC)

Jordin Hale (Oak Park)

Taylor Stoner (Naperville North)

 

Biggest Impact Plays

BOYS

Edgar Wright (H-F)

Wright's deflected shot with 0:17 left in sudden-death OT proved to be the game-winner as the Vikings beat LWN 9-8 on Monday night.

 

Matt Engebretson (Conant)

Engebretson's scored with less than one minute remaining in overtime to lift the Cougars past Palatine 10-9 in a key MSL West contest on Thursday night.

 

GIRLS

Allison Boothe (Mundelein)

Boothe scored in the final minute of the first sudden-death overtime period to lift Mundelein past Rockford 9-8 at the Stevenson Tournament on Saturday.

 

Cara Hays (Sandburg)

Hays scored on Sandburg's first possession in triple-OT to lift the Eagles to a 6-5 win over Evanston and the Naperville Central Tournament title.

 

Top Goalie Performances

BOYS

John Goetz (Lockport)

Goetz totaled 56 saves and made a key penalty save in the fourth quarter of the Lockport's title game victory over HC; the Porters went 4-0 and won the Brother Rice Tournament.

 

John Hedderman (Neuqua Valley)

The Wildcats' shot-stopper made 33 saves and recorded 2 goals as Neuqua won the Metea Valley Tournament with a 3-0 record.

 

Mitch Courtney (Hinsdale Central)

Courtney totaled 41 saves and made 29 steals to help the Red Devils take second place at the Brother Rice Tourney with a 3-1 record.

 

GIRLS

Alona King (Sandburg)

King allowed just 3 goals per game in Sandburg's wins over Evanston, Jenison, and NC to help the Eagles win the NC Tournament over the weekend.

 

Jenny Stelnicki (St Ignatius)

Stelnicki stopped 30 shots and earned two shutouts as the Wolfpack won their own event over the weekend with wins over H-F, Loyola, New Trier, and Waubonsie Valley.

 

Jordin Hale/Zoe Erickson (Oak Park)

Hale and Erickson combined to make 48 saves as OPRF went 3-1 at the Naperville North Tournament on Saturday.

 

Biggest Surprises

BOYS

Evanston

The Wildkits earned a 13-8 victory over Maine South that could have major implications in the CSL standings.

 

Libertyville

The Wildcats stunned a shorthanded Patriots' team with a second half comeback that led to a 12-10 victory.

 

GIRLS

Glenbrook North

The Spartans went 4-0 at their own tournament, including wins over Highland Park, Libertyville, LWE, and St Viator.

State Brackets Determined

The IHSA determined the brackets for the state tournament earlier this week; the results and a full explanation can be found here.

 

Sectional Seeds & Pairings Released

The seeds for the boys and girls sectional playoffs were determined on Thursday. For the game times and pairings, check the Week 10 schedule.

 

The 500 Club

Danijela Jackovich (pictured with the game ball) recorded her 500th career goal on Wednesday night in a win over LWW.
