State Quarterfinal Platinum Ballers

Vol. II

 

The following players shined bright for their teams as they all advanced to the sectional semifinals on Friday:

 

BOYS

Eric Curia (Naperville North)

Curia recorded 5 goals, including three straight scores in the second half to help the Huskies overcome a 7-5 deficit to beat New Trier 10-9 on Friday night.

 

Matt Bresnahan/Matt Farmer (Fenwick)

Bresnahan and Farmer each scored 3 early goals to help Fenwick earn a 13-6 victory over Homewood-Flossmoor.

 

Tommy McGuire (Fenwick)

McGuire tied a state record by blocking 19 shots in the Friars' 13-6 win over H-F. He also recorded a shutout in the first half as Fenwick moved to the semifinal round.

 

Mitchell Sokolsky (Stevenson)

Sokolsky recorded 5 goals to help lift the Patriots to a 9-6 victory over Conant in the third quarterfinal game on Friday night.

 

Rob O'Brien (Stevenson)

O'Brien blocked a breakaway shot by Conant's Jon Burke with the Patriots leading 7-6 in the third period and would not allow another goal the rest of the way as Stevenson defeated Conant 9-6.

 

John Reyes (St Ignatius)

Late in the game, Reyes provided the following in Ignatius' 9-6 win over Brother Rice:

 

Kept a play alive by pushing a pass out to the perimeter with a defender draped on his back to allow Shane Hughes to score from the point to tie the game at 4-4.

 

Scored after an ejection to give SICP a 5-4 lead.

 

Scored a powerplay goal to put SICP ahead 6-5.

 

Assisted Barth on a backhand goal to make it 7-5.

 

Scored a breakaway goal after a save by Tym Zymon to put the Wolfpack in control with an 8-5 lead.
