The Turning Point

Vol. III

The following key plays made the biggest difference in the semifinal round of the state tournament on Saturday:

BOYS

Fenwick 12 Naperville North 10

Double Ejection Leads To Trouble For Huskies

The Friars drew two straight ejections on Gianmarco Duin and Nolan Roberts on the same play and Matt Bresnahan scored from the right side to give Fenwick a 12-9 lead with less than three minutes remaining after the Huskies had closed the gap to just two goals. The Friars allowed just one goal from there to walk away with a 12-10 decision.

Stevenson 8 St Ignatius 5

Mummadi Has Answers For the Patriots

Following a questionable call that gave St Ignatius a 5-3 lead, Varun Mummadi scored two straight goals to tie the game and give Stevenson all of the game's momentum as they went on to beat the Wolfpack 8-5.

GIRLS

Lincoln-Way Central 8 Mundelein 7

Howe Comes To The Rescue For Knights

After building a 6-3 lead in the third quarter, Lincoln-Way Central gave up three consecutive goals to Mundelein and were in danger of losing their lead. Instead, Kristi Howe supplied an immediate answer with her second goal of the period and the Knights held onto their one-goal lead until midway through the fourth quarter when they went ahead by two scores.

Lincoln-Way Central 8 Mundelein 7

Foglton Denies Kozokar's Game-Tying Attempt

After a Mundelein timeout, Karrie Kozokar had a chance to tie the game in the closing seconds of the first semifinal game on Saturday. Lincoln-Way Central goalie Caroline Foglton had other thoughts, as she tipped the outside shot off the crossbar and Central claimed the rebound to secure an 8-7 victory.

St Ignatius 8 Mother McAuley 7

Juarez' Hustle Play Leads To Game Winner

Karen Juarez crashed the goal and drew a penalty with just over two minutes remaining in a 7-7 tie game with Mother McAuley. Tammy Stelnicki stepped up to convert the free shot and St Ignatius held onto their one-goal lead until the game's final whistle.
