Week 4

 

The following is a summary of what took place during the most recent week in water polo action in Illinois. This is not a complete list; the purpose is to recognize several of the best performances from across the state that have been reported.

 

Players To Watch

Jack Schermerhorn (Loyola)

 

GIRLS

Geena Peyton (Mother McAuley)

Kelly Morrissey/Rebecca Tanner (H-F)

 

Biggest Impact Plays

BOYS

Billy Barth (St Ignatius)

Barth scored the eventual game-winner for SICP as they got past Loyola 10-9 in overtime on Wednesday.

 

Chuck Walters/Eric Tamulonis (Andrew)

Both players from Andrew scored eventual game-winning goals during Week 4 as the T-Bolts stayed perfect in 2014.

 

Mitch Zieler (Sandburg)

Zieler scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime to help the Eagles get past Lockport 14-13 on Tuesday.

 

GIRLS

Caily Friel (Andrew)

Friel scored the game-winner with 1:37 remaining in the second overtime period of the T-Bolts' 6-4 win over LWC on Tuesday.

 

Stephania Lopez (St Ignatius)

Lopez scored the game-winning goal with 1:26 left in extra time to help the Wolfpack beat Loyola 8-7.

 

Top Goalie Performances

BOYS

Trevor Prince (Loyola)

Prince stopped 30 shots and helped the Ramblers finish 3-1 at the Fenwick Tournament over the weekend. He also made 10 saves in Monday's 12-10 win over DLS and made 9 saves in a midweek contest with #3 St Ignatius.

 

GIRLS

Becky Callen (Stevenson)

Callen recorded 26 saves over the weekend at the Fenwick Tournament, helping the Patriots end the event with a 3-1 record.

 

Biggest Surprises

BOYS

Stagg

The Chargers knocked off Sandburg 10-8 on Thursday and could make a major move in the SWSC Blue division now that they are back at full strength.

 

GIRLS

Evanston

The Wildkits earned a 10-8 victory over Loyola to announce their arrival as a state tournament contender in 2014.

Awaiting the State Tournament Draw

Now that the sectional assignments have been released, the next IHSA announcement we await deals with the state tournament brackets. Will it be this week or next week?

 

Week 5 Begins

From now until the end of the regular season, expect a full slate of games now that Spring Break has ended for most of the teams in the state.
