The following is a summary of what took place during the most recent week in water polo action in Illinois. This is not a complete list; the purpose is to recognize several of the best performances from across the state that have been reported.

BOYS

Eric Johnson/Matt Cavanaugh (Lockport)

Cavanaugh and Johnson earn scored key goals to help the Porters secure an 8-7 win over Sandburg in the title game of the Brother Rice Tournament.

 

GIRLS

Brittany Bishop/Maria Breen (New Trier)

Breen scored with eight seconds remaining after Bishop drew an ejection to help lift the Trevians over Evanston 5-4 on Tuesday.

 

Diana Capota/Rachel Spector (GBS)

Spector drew an ejection and Capota scored on the next possession as the Titans beat Vernon Hills in the closing stages of Tuesday's 10-9 victory.

 

Sammy Zaug (Maine South)

Zaug notched the game-winning goal in overtime as Maine South defeated Conant 7-6 on Tuesday.

 

Top Goalie Performances

BOYS

Jakobi McClellan (H-F)

McClellan made 102 saves throughout Week 6, highlighted by a 22-save performance in the Vikings' win over Andrew on Monday night.

 

GIRLS

Faith Vandercar (Naperville Central)

Vandercar went 5-0 during Week 7 and totaled 37 saves as the Redhawks improved to 20-3 in 2014.

 

Biggest Surprises

BOYS

Hersey

The Huskies earned wins over New Trier and Palatine in the preliminary round of the GBS Tournament to advance to the first-place group at the event.

 

GIRLS

Bremen

The Red Jaguars beat Mother McAuley for the first time in team history on Thursday night.

Conference Title Races Take Shape

Conant and Palatine meet to decide the girls' MSL West title on Monday; that sets the stage for the next two weeks, as titles will be decided and seeding for conference tourneys will be finalized shortly.

 

Sectional Playoffs Set

The IHSA announced the seeds and matchups for the 2014 sectional playoffs during Week 7.
