Players to Watch - Preseason Volume II

BOYS

Evan Johnson (Stagg)

The Chargers expect junior Evan Johnson to make a major impact for a team that returns the majority of their starters and could earn their first state tournament berth when all is said and done in 2014.

Matt Laboe (Naperville Central)

The Redhawks will get a boost from a talented group of underclassmen, but they'll also need veterans like senior Matt Laboe to help the team contend for a state tournament berth.

Mitch Winkelmann (Sandburg)

Sandburg will need plenty of new faces to make an impact if they hope to challenge for a state tournament berth in 2014; one of those players is senior Mitch Winkelmann, a versatile veteran that will likely make an impact on both ends of the pool for head coach Jim Caliendo's squad.

GIRLS

Jill Connolly (LWE)

The Griffins have a large contingent of players returning in 2014, but their most important component could be senior goaltender Jill Connolly, an underrated netminder who gives the LWE defense a chance to claim the SWSC Blue title and a possible state berth.

Nicole Kasman (Hoffman)

The Hawks will be led by dual threat Nicole Kasman, who has the speed, strength and experience to lead the offense and can also serve time in goal to spearhead the defense when necessary.

Claire Voss (Loyola)

The Ramblers should pick up where they left off last season if sophomore Claire Voss can build off a strong offseason performance after making an immediate impact at the varsity level during her freshman campaign in 2013.
