All-Sectional Team Omissions

Part II

The following players deserved a spot on the All-Sectional Team, but for some reason they were omitted, not receiving any recognition at all. Below is a list of some key omissions from both the boys' and girls' All-Sectional teams:

BOYS

Alex Grant (New Trier)

Grant was a key fixture in the lineup all season long for the Trevians. In the postseason, he led the team with 4 goals in a 14-7 quarterfinal win over GBN and scored 3 of the team's 4 goals in a 13-4 loss to Loyola in the semifinal round.

Haden Santefort (Homewood-Flossmoor)

Santefort was a 100+ goalscorer and combined with Broc Thompson to form a potent offensive attack for an H-F team that lost several key starters to graduation.

James Kelly (Oak Park)

Kelly was a consistent performer all season long for OPRF, complimenting leading scorer Mark Hallman quite effectively for a team that won the WSC Tournament and racked up 19 total wins.

Robert Liberman (Glenbrook North)

Liberman teamed up with John Roberts to help the Spartans achieve one of their best seasons in recent memory. He had a large number of convincing performances, including a 12 goal performance at the Naperville Tournament in Week 6 and helped GBN finish undefeated in the CSL North.

Ross Davis (STC North)

Davis was a major contributor for a North Stars' team that broke their single-season record for wins (21) and finished in the Top 25. He had a large number of stellar performances, none better than when he nailed the game-tying and game winning goals to help North win their own tournament in a 7-6 classic over Hersey in Week 8.

GIRLS

Argelia Diaz (Wheeling)

Diaz emerged as a key scorer and defender for Wheeling all season long, culminating with her game-winning goal in extra time that lifted the Wildcats over Conant 11-10 in the MSL title game. The Wildcats finished with 20 wins and claimed their first conference title this season.

Caily Friel (Andrew)

Friel emerged as a big-time scoring option for Andrew this season; she totaled 3 goals in both of the T-Bolts sectional wins over Marian and LWC and also netted 2 goals in the sectional final against LWE.

Lauren VanderVelde (LWE)

VanderVelde is a key contributor for a Griffins' team that has a multitude of scoring options, but it's hard to overlook her sectional contributions. She scored 7 times in the team's wins over Bradley and LWN, then led the team with 4 scores in a 9-5 sectional final victory over Andrew.

Lauren Broz/Niki Neumann (Prospect)

Broz and Neumann were both outstanding during the entire 2014 season for the Knights; Broz was the unsung hero in goal for a team that always seemed to keep the score low and Neumann was a constant on the offensive end with her goal-scoring ability. They were both major contributors in Prospect's second place finish in the MSL East.

Medina Husejnovic (Maine East)

Husejnovic was one of the main cogs in the offense of the Blue Demons, who finished the season atop the CSL South and totaled 24 wins. She scored 2 key goals in a 5-3 victory over New Trier in the CSL Tournament, then led the offense with 3 goals in a 4-3 triumph over Glenbrook North in the sectional quarterfinals.
