ANDREW PETERSON
Illpolo.com's Top Junior Goalie

Andrew Peterson has long been known for his goaltending ability, but he also played a strong role in the field in 2005 to help Mundelein advance to the start tournament and earn a fourth place finish in state. He was chosen as one of the Top Junior Goalies in 2005 by Illpolo.com. He was named to the All-Illpolo second team at the end of the season and was also selected to the All-State second team for his performance as well. We asked Andrew the following questions in an exclusive Illpolo.com interview:

College choices, major, current GPA?

Loyola Marymount University, U of I, other West Coast schools - I'm only a junior so I am just starting to look at different schools.  Major: Journalism  Current GPA: B average

Experience, Club Team, Zone Teams, Off-season work?

Played for about 10 years, Zone team since 2000, play with the Midwest Water Polo Zone Team and Northern Illinois Polo Club and Mundelein Mustangs Club teams.

When did you start? How? Where?

When I was about 7 years old, with Northern Illinois Polo Club. Sister Stacey (LMU Women's Water Polo) played with NIPC and Mundelein Mustangs Polo Club and I wanted to play too. Stacey and I played together in games her 8th grade season with NIPC when we still had coed teams (I was in 5th grade at the time).

Awards and achievements?

Second Team - Junior Olympics in Ann Arbor (14U). Honorable mention All-State Team - Sophomore Year. Midwest Zone Team member - Cadets and Youth levels - 4 years (Midwest Zone Team took 9th last year at NAGS). Attended National Team tryouts in Annapolis last year and will be attending National team tryouts this year in CA with other Zone Team members and NAGs in late June. Andrew was also a first team All-Sectional selection and was named to the second team All-State and second team All-Illpolo. He was also chosen as our top junior goalie in 2005.

Personal interests? Music? TV shows?

I love to play any kind of frisbee, basketball, any other sports. Weezer, Taking Back Sunday, The Offspring, The Shins, Tom Petty. Family guy, Viva la Bam.

Goals for the future with polo? School? Life?

Hopefully to play in a college of choice, out west. Go into some form of journalism - sports or entertainment reporting (I'm a reporter for my high school paper).

Motivation, inspiration?

The feeling of being thought of as a top player, love of the game, being in good shape.

First Season role?

I played varsity goalie my first game in high school against Fenwick - what a way to start your high school career. When I survived, I figured I'd be okay.

Soph, Junior Year role?

To play goalie mainly, but also playing field more and more this year to help the team with offense and defense.

Other comments/Things to Know?

I love Buffalo wings and chillin' with my friends.
