BRITTANY WALK
Illpolo.com's Top Junior Goalie
Brittany Walk put in some standout performances this season in helping
Naperville Central earn their first trip to the state tournament. She was named to the
All-Illpolo second team and was also selected to the All-State second team
for her performance. We asked Brittany the following
questions in an exclusive Illpolo.com interview:
College choices, major, current GPA?
I have been looking at Indiana University, University of Illinois, George
Washington University, and various others. Hopefully my major would be
secondary education in English, and a minor in journalism. That way i have
a lot of options once I graduate.
When did you start? How? Where?
I started playing water polo in the summer before sixth grade for the park district, and that same year I started to play club for Mavericks Water Polo Club.
Experience, Club Team, Zone Teams, Off-season work?
I continued to play Mavericks until I entered
High School, where I was too old to play for that club, and I started to
play for the school. Also in the junior high school years I played for the
Midwest Zone team.
Awards and achievements?
I have started on the women’s varsity for all
three years, and I have been a co-captain for the past two years.
Academically, I have been on the honor roll every semester, and have also
been on the All Academic teams for my sports. Water Polo varsity letter as
a Freshman and Sophomore, and swimming Varsity letter as a Junior.
Brittany was named second team All-Illpolo and second team All-State in
2005, as well as Illpolo.com's Top Junior Goalie.
Motivation, inspiration?
My main insperation/motivation is my Grandma.
She always loved to come and see my play, and she always got so involved.
At the games she would get so into it even though she had no idea what was
going on. Now that she is not able to come to games anymore, I think that
it is time for us to go to state. I know that all she will be doing is
smiling, and that keeps pushing me to try harder.
First Season, Career role?
My freshman year I started as the Varsity goalie for Naperville Central, and I continue to play this position now. The team has been great and it has been amazing to see how much better we have become in the past few years, especially my fellow juniors.
Additional?
One of my main motivations to play is just the girls. It is so amazing how we get along, and the best part of it all is that we have so much fun just playing the game.
