Brother Rice 9 Fenwick 7

Fenwick Tournament Championship

March 19, 2005

Mark DiCola scored five goals, including a powerplay goal with 3:17 left to play, to lead Brother Rice to a 9-7 victory over Fenwick at the Fenwick Tournament on Saturday night. The Crusaders led 8-3 heading to the fourth quarter, but Fenwick scored four straight goals to get within 8-7 with 3:45 remaining in the contest. DiCola then drew an ejection and took a pass from Nick Velasquez at two meters to score and put Brother Rice ahead for good. Fenwick was only able to get one more shot off in the closing minutes as Brother Rice was able to run the clock out for the win.

DiCola led the Crusaders with five goals, Velasquez added two scores, and both Sean Coghlan and Omar Vasquez each added a goal. Fenwick was led by Tom Parolin (3 goals) and Mark Melnyk (2 goals), with Oscar Calderon and Luke Baldwin each scoring once.

Earlier in the tournament, the Crusaders earned wins over Naperville Central, Sandburg, and St Patrick before handing the Friars their first loss of the season. Fenwick had defeated Oak Park, St Patrick, and Homewood-Flossmoor to advance to the championship game.
