Brother Rice 8 Fenwick 7

March 21, 2005

Mark DiCola took a pass from Omar Vasquez at two meters and scored with 0:24 seconds remaining to give Brother Rice their second straight victory over Fenwick this season. Moments earlier, Fenwick had tied the score at 7-7 when Jack Ryden nailed a shot from outside seven meters.

.

With Rice leading 5-4 in the third quarter, Luke Baldwin tied the score with a goal. After Baldwin made a steal and a lead pass to Mark Melnyk, Brother Rice goalie Joe Frantz denied the Melnyk breakaway to keep the score tied. Frantz added a save on a seven meter shot from Melnyk at the end of the third quarter.

.

In the final period, Frantz picked up where he left off with a save on Oscar Calderon's backhand, and Terry Moran gave the Crusaders a chance to reclaim the lead by drawing a four-meter penalty on the next possession. Nick Velasquez found the right corner of the net to score the penalty shot, as Rice grabbed a 6-5 lead. Baldwin drew an ejection with 2:19 remaining in the game, and Ryden scored from the right wing to tie the game at 6-6. DiCola then found Omar Vasquez in front of the net, and he tossed a shot over his shoulder to put Brother Rice ahead 7-6. After Fenwick's next possession resulted in a turnover, Baldwin made a steal for the Friars and Fenwick called a timeout to set up a play. The strategy worked, as Ryden took a pass in the right flat and hit the crossbar and dropped across the goalline to tie the game at 7-7. The Crusaders responded immediately, as Vasquez got the ball in the right corner and drew a quick foul. DiCola swam away from the goal and took a perfect pass from Vasquez and scored to give Brother Rice the one goal lead. Fenwick had one last chance to send the game into overtime, but Melnyk's shot sailed over the goal as the buzzer sounded.

.

DiCola, Vasquez, and Velasquez all scored twice for the Crusaders, while Coghlan and Chavez-Cedeno tallied one goal for Brother Rice. Melnyk led Fenwick with three goals, while Ryden and Baldwin each scored twice for the Friars.
