St Viator 14 Fremd 2 (Girls)

April 4, 2005

After a scoreless first quarter, #11 St Viator went on a 7-0 run to cruise past #22 Fremd 14-2 on Monday night. Sarah Ostling scored five goals to lead the Lions, and goaltender Caitie Polz helped the defense by shutting out the Vikings in the first half.

Neither team could score in the opening period, as Ostling's two-meter shot hit the crossbar on St Viator's best scoring opportunity with 0:24 remaining in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Ostling's backhand hit the crossbar and her rebound shot went over the net in the first minute. Kaitlin Kulick's backhand on Fremd's next possession was off the mark, and Ashley Rivard scored quickly on the Lions' counterattack to give St Viator a 1-0 lead. Ashley Belbin assisted Ostling on a goal from two-meters out to make the score 2-0 on their next possession. Belbin made a steal, passed back to the goalie, who found Ostling on a breakaway. She hesitated, then found Sara Hlavin driving towards the goal, and she scored easily to make the score 3-0. Polz made a save, passed to Megan Barry, who assisted Ostling on her second goal of the period moments later. Ostling drew a foul and hit Barry with a pass on a drive, and she hit the right corner of the net to make the score 5-0. Ostling made a steal and scored an unassisted goal from the left wing to the opposite corner to make the score 6-0 with 1:00 left in the half. Rivard made a steal and assisted Belbin on a breakaway goal to increase the lead to 7-0 at halftime.

Belbin assisted Rivard on a goal to start the third quarter, and Samantha Belbin's steal prevented a Fremd goal on the Vikings' next possession. Kulick finally got Fremd on the scoreboard after taking a pass from Indre Lauritis and scoring on breakaway to cut the lead to 8-1, but Hlavin scored after a Lions timeout to make it 9-1 late in the third period.

Ostling scored a breakaway goal from Polz in the fist fifteen seconds of the fourth quarter, then assisted Emily Wood on a breakaway goal moments later to made the score 11-1. Rivard and Ostling added late
