April 5, 2005

.

Terri Bukofzer scored five goals and Sam Gibson tallied five assists and four steals as #4 Stevenson earned a 10-3 nonconference win over #20 Latin on Tuesday night. The Patriots built a 5-1 lead at halftime and applied continuous defensive pressure to hold the Romans to only three total goals.

Gibson assisted Bukofzer on a two-meter goal to start the game, and the Patriots went ahead 2-0 as Jesse Shopiro found Bukofzer open again for her second goal of the opening quarter. Sarah Boedecker put in a rebound goal on a powerplay after Latin's goalie Suzanne Foote made a save, but Foote then made a save on Julie Phillips' shot on a drive. The Romans got on the board when Danielle Carlson put in a rebound goal in front of net to make the score 3-1. Foote made her third save on Bukofzer's two meter shot to keep the Romans within two goals at the end of the period.

Bukofzer added a two-meter goal midway through the second quarter to make the score 4-1, and Boedecker followed that effort with a steal and an unassisted goal to increase the lead to four goals. Foote denied Bukofzer on an open shot to keep Latin within striking distance, but the Romans could not score on a powerplay in the final minute of the second quarter and trailed 5-1 at halftime.

Ellen Manasse scored to open the second half for Latin on a shot from just within seven meters, but Katie Michelau drew an ejection and scored the powerplay goal to make the score 6-2. Christine Ahern stole a pass intended for Stevenson goalie Kiersten Kranberg and assisted Claire Henderson on her first goal to cut the lead to 6-3, but Stevenson bounced back as Bukofzer picked up a loose ball in front of the net and scored easily moments later. The Romans missed out on a chance to get closer after Perla Almarez forced a turnover and led Henderson for a breakaway chance, but Kranberg blocked the open shot from in front of the net to keep the Patriots ahead by four at the end of the third quarter.

Bukofzer scored her fifth goal in the minute of the final period, but she was denied by Foote in front of
