Northside Prep 9 Loyola 5

April 12, 2005

.

Northside Prep overcame an early 2-0 deficit to upset Loyola 9-5 on Tuesday night. Nicole Lagesse scored four goals and Mari Guttman added three to propel Northside Prep to the win.

Loyola's Jackie Sershon and Colleen Shaw scored early in the first quarter for the Ramblers, but Northside came back strong in the second period, as Guttman scored twice and Nicole Lagesse added a goal. Granato shut Loyola out in the second period, giving Northside a 3-2 lead at the half.

Loyola quickly tied the game at 3-3 in the third when Kristina Pilolli beat Granato to the right corner of the net. Northside reclaimed the lead one minute later when Leah Cowen found an opening between Loyola's Courtney Muntean and the weak-side top corner.  But Shaw wasn't done yet, as she tied it back up with 4:40 left in the third after drawing a four-meter penalty to make it a 4-4 game. The responded in a big way down the stretch,  as Lagesse scored three straight goals in the quarter, with two coming on power plays to give Northside a 7-4 lead.

At the start of the fourth quarter, Leah Cowen found another opening in the weak-side top corner to increase the Northside Prep lead to 8-4 with 6:34 left. As time was slowly running out for the Ramblers, Pilolli found another opening in the cage to cut the advantage to 8-5, but Guttman added the finishing touch for the Mustangs, scoring her third goal of the night to help upset Loyola 9-5.
