GREG PECK
Illpolo.com Senior MVP

Not only did Greg Peck set a single-game scoring record at the state tournament with a ten-goal performance, but he also led Mundelein to a fourth place finish in the state in 2005. As a result of his efforts, the Naval Academy-bound senior was named to the All-Illpolo first team at the end of the season and was also selected to the All-State first team. We asked Greg the following questions in an exclusive Illpolo.com interview:

College choices, major, current GPA?

Going to the Naval academy, major in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering, current GPA is 3.25.

Experience, Club Team, Zone Teams, Off-season work?

4 yrs Varsity, 3 yr varsity starter, played for 8 yrs. Play on Mundelein Club Team. Starter on Midwest Zone Water Polo Team, play all year round.

When did you start? How? Where?

I have been swimming since I was 7, and played soccer. When i got cut from the traveling soccer team, i decided to play water polo since i could swim pretty good already. I have been on the NIPC age group team up to high school, then played with Mundelein all of high school.

Awards and achievements?

All-Conference and All-Sectional since sophomore year, voted most dedicated two years in a row in the team, two time state qualifier for swimming, two sectional events champion in swimming, school record holder in 500 yd free. Also an Eagle Scout.

Personal interests? Music? TV shows?

I enjoy rock climbing. I listen to wide range of music, but listening to a lot of 70's rock lately, like Bad Company. Favorite Bands are Bad Company, Led Zeppelin, Eagles, Stevie Ray Vaughn, ZZ Top, and others. Don't watch a lot of TV except for my favorite show, 24.

Goals for the future with polo? School? Life?

I have already achieved my goal because i am playing division I water polo next yr. Want to become a Navy Seal when i graduate from the Naval Academy.

Motivation, inspiration?

To be the best water polo player i can be. I look up to my Coach, Rahul Sethna, because he has a great life and a happy family with his first kid. He is probably my role model.

First Season role?

My freshman year, my role was to carry the water bottles of the starters. It was really important that they stay hydrated and do not get tired.

Soph Year role?

My sophomore year, i was told not to screw up that bad. Sethna just wanted me to be able to make safe passes, be a solid defender, and be a threat on offense every once in a while. My junior yr, Schuessler was the offense and i was the defense. I played hole D, and my job was to take the other teams best player and shut them down/not let them score. And swim them up and down the pool the entire game, to tire them.
