NICOLE SRUTOWSKI
All-State First Team

Nicole Srutowski helped Sandburg achieve a 25-2 record in the regular season in addition to a claim of the SICA Conference in 2005. She was named to the All-State first team at the end of the season and was also selected to the All-Illpolo second team for her performance as well. We asked Nicole the following questions in an exclusive Illpolo.com interview:

College choices, major, current GPA?

I will be attending Eastern Illinois University and I'm still undecided about my major. Currently, I have a 4.0 GPA.

Experience, Club Team, Zone Teams, Off-season work?

I started playing polo my freshman year and I was on P.O.W. (palos-orland water polo) my freshman, sophomore and junior year.

When did you start? How? Where?

I attend my first water polo game in 6th grade and fell in love with it. I knew when I went to high school that was exactly what I wanted to be involved in. So, freshman year I tried out and made the team.

Awards and achievements?

I was named All-Sectional honorable mention last year. Nicole was also a first team All-State selection in 2005 and also was nominated to the All-Sectional team as well.

Personal interests? Music? TV shows?

I love country music but I'll listen to anything really. I also enjoy baking.

Goals for the future with polo? School? Life?

My goal for the rest of this season is to finish up with a bang. I think that we have so much potential that we could hopefully see the state finals but no matter what this has been one amazing ride.

Motivation, inspiration?

What motivates me is my family and defiantly my coaches but above all my teammates. We have became really close this past season and I know I wouldn't be the player, let alone the person that I am today without them. We have been through everything together and I really admire the fact that we are always there for each other. I believe that the love that we have for one another is what really keeps us going and makes us the team we are.

First Season role?

My first season role I think was to keep my head above water and not drowned. I was a driver/wing and I really didn't understand the game very well. Luckily for me, I had amazing support and guidance from my coaches and other teammates.

Soph, Junior Year role?

Sophomore year I was still on JV and my role was to prepare for varsity and when I got there (junior year) I was ready to learn how the big girls played. I was still a driver/wing both my sophomore and junior years.

Stats?

I try not to pay to much attention to my personal stats but we are 27-2-1 for this season.
