SARAH OSTLING
Illpolo.com's All-Illpolo Second Team

Sarah Ostling has been a force on the offensive end for her entire career, and she added a few more elements to her game in 2005 to help St Viator finish the regular season with a 17-4 record. She was named to the All-Illpolo second team at the end of the season and was also selected to the All-State second team for his performance as well. We asked Sarah the following questions in an exclusive Illpolo.com interview:

College choices, major, current GPA?

For college I would like to go somewhere out west, preferably somewhere in California, although it is only a dream, I would like to accomplish it. I want to major in physical therapy or go into marine biology, but I'm not completely sure yet.

Experience, Club Team, Zone Teams, Off-season work?

I play polo with Northern Illinois Polo Club with Jeff Wimer over the summer and in the fall before season. I have traveled all over the country with the girls and had some of the best trips ever! I also went to the Youth National Tryouts last year in May which were held in La Jolla, California and I am going again this year to Utah, representing the Midwest Zone team which I tried out for. I play with Terri Bukofzer, Farren Rixter, Allison Pavlick, Keely Baldwin, and many other girls too!

When did you start? How? Where?

I started in seventh grade because I was a swimmer and played softball so I decided to combine them into one sport. I quit softball and started playing polo, but I wasn't really serious about it until freshman year. I have played under Jeff Wimer ever since I started.

Awards and achievements?

I have been All-Sectional freshman year, All-Conference sophomore year, All-Area twice, and MVP of my team last year. Sarah was also named to the second team All-Illpolo and second team All-State. She was also an All-Sectional selection in 2005.

Personal interests? Music? TV shows?

One of my favorite things to do is play racquetball with my dad and brother on weekends, even though I'm horrible at it. Some of my favorite TV shows are Family Guy, and I absolutely love MXC on Spike TV haha I'm a loser I know but it makes me laugh like no other.

Goals for the future with polo? School? Life?

My goals for the future would be to play in college. I would love to, but it's not my priority, but it would be great to play. I would like to attend a school that has my academic interests, and have a polo team. Whether I'm good enough to play or not for that school, I would still like to watch. Basically I want what everyone else wants in life: to be happy!

Motivation, inspiration?

My biggest inspiration are my parents. Things get really difficult sometimes but they are always behind me 100% on all my decisions, and when I think I can't do something, they always help me believe that I can.

First Season role/Career role?

My freshman year I was primarily the set on our team which qualified for state. Last year, I was still the set, but last year was our "rebuilding" year. This year I play set, but I'm all over the pool taking care of things that need to be done, mostly the little things. I'm playing on the perimeter more and scoring from the outside and playing much more defense, but I'm still setting too.

Stats?

I'd say an average of 4 goals per game with 2-3 assists, and about 5 steals per game, too.

Additional?

Basically, I love my team! The girls are amazing and I am so proud of them for having such a great and fun season! We are playing as a team more than ever, and it's great to accomplish something as a team.
