Both the Dukes and Huskies have been perfect so far in 2013, so the magnitude of this West Suburban Conference showdown has risen significantly; expect fireworks in Elmhurst when the two square off on Wednesday evening.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON

5:00pm - #19 St Ignatius at #27 St Patrick

The Wolfpack are fresh off a big win over Brother Rice on Monday, but they'll have to be at the top of their game when they take on undefeated St Patrick in a Catholic League contest in Chicago.

MATCH OF THE DAY, PART I

6:30pm - #2 Mother McAuley at #1 Fenwick

The defending champs and top-ranked Friars welcome second-ranked Mother McAuley to their den in a Catholic League showdown sure to help determine the MCAC regular season winner in 2013. After the Mighty Macs defeated #3 St Ignatius on Monday night, they now get their chance to dethrone last year's conference and state title winner. Meanwhile, the Friars got their season started on Monday with a solid win over #5 Loyola and could get one step closer to claiming the regular season title if they can get past their nemesis on Wednesday night.

 

 

MATCH OF THE DAY, PART II

6:30pm - #6 Naperville Central at #5 New Trier

The Redhawks make the journey to Winnetka to do battle with New Trier in a contest between state qualifiers from the previous season.

MATCH OF THE DAY

Oak Park 11 York 4

Nathan Pimentel registered 5 goals and Mark Hallman added 2 scores as the Huskies defeated York 11-4 on Wednesday. OPRF goalie Sean Obrecht made 8 saves, while Alex Darnall, Grant Krueger, Lee Werner, and Kyle Patnode each chipped in with one goal in the winning effort.

 

OTHER KEY GAMES
Brother Rice 13 St Rita 9

Ian Disteldorf scored 4 goals, Kevin Mayer notched 3 scores, and Cal Kennedy made 9 saves in Brother Rice's 13-9 win over St Rita. Dan Whalen, Dave Jackson, and Mike Omastiak each added 2 scores in the win for the Crusaders.

 

Curie 13 Lane 6

The Condors remained atop the CPS standings after a 13-6 victory over Lane.

 

Fenwick 22 DeSmet 12

Matt Bresnahan scored 6 goals and Matt Farmer scored 4 times as Fenwick knocked off DeSmet 22-12 on Wednesday. Danny Farmer also scored 3 goals and both Justin White and Trevor McLean chipped in with 2 scores as the Friars improved to 3-0 on the season.

 

Loyola 11 St Viator 6

Ben Pasquesi and Jack Considine both recorded 3 goals to help lift the Ramblers past St Viator 11-6. Rob Battin tallied 4 scores in the loss for the Lions.

 

Morgan Park 11 Simeon 5

Jackie Dempsey totaled 5 goals and 6 steals as the Mustangs downed Simeon 11-5 in CPS action.

 

Mundelein 15 Wheeling 7

The Mustangs jumped out to a 10-0 halftime lead en route to a 15-7 win over Wheeling; Jason Rehor put in 5 goals, Connor Black scored 4 times, and Chris Starck added 2 goals in the Mundelein victory. Matt Angelback also made 9 saves in the win for the home side. Nate Reiff led the Wildcats with 4 scores in the loss.

 

St Ignatius 7 St Patrick 6 (3 OT)

Tom Dowling scored the game-winning goal in sudden-death overtime to lead St Ignatius past St Patrick 7-6 on Wednesday night. Dowling totaled 3 scores, while Billy Barth and Shane Hughes each contributed 2 scores for the victors.

MATCH OF THE DAY I

Fenwick 5 Mother McAuley 3

Cara Borkovec scored 3 goals and Alexa Ovalle recorded 2 scores as Fenwick entered the fourth quarter trailing 3-2 but used a 3-0 run to earn a 5-3 win over Mother McAuley on Wednesday night. The Mighty Macs took their first lead in the third quarter, but Ovalle tied the game immediately at the start of the final period and Borkovec added two quick goals to give the Friars an advantage they would not give up. Denise Buglio also made 10 saves in the win for the top-ranked Friars. Amy Kopale, Kristen Kleist, and Fran Williamson each scored once in the loss for McAuley, their first of the 2013 season. Sarah Abbott contributed on the defensive end with 8 saves for the second-ranked Mighty Macs.

 

 

MATCH OF THE DAY II

New Trier 8 Naperville Central 6

Alexana Astor, Kelsey Willian, and Lindsey Siegel each scored 2 times and Hannah Caywood blocked 13 shots and added 5 steals as New Trier held off Naperville Central 8-6 in Winnetka on Wednesday. The Trevians outscored the Redhawks 3-2 in both the third and fourth quarters after the teams were tied 2-2 at halftime. Liz Joyce and Samantha Padavic also scored one goal apiece in the New Trier win. Madison Nervig recorded 2 goals and Erin Reagan, Kristina Altuve, and Michelle Spaits contributed one score in the loss for Central.

 

OTHER KEY GAMES

Elk Grove 16 Vernon Hills 2

Alexa Zajac scored 3 goals and five other players (Angelica Ford, Carly Hirschauer, Kathryn Noonan, Madeline Vanko, Dominika Struk) scored 2 times as Elk Grove rolled to a 16-2 win over Vernon Hills on Wednesday.

 

Loyola 10 St Viator 4

Evan Swenson scored 4 goals, Allison Sajnaj added 3 goals, and Meredith O'Brien made 9 saves as the Ramblers earned a 10-4 victory over St Viator in Catholic League play on Wednesday. Marta Considine, Ellen Garrity, and Brighet O'Donoghue each tallied one score in Loyola's win.

 

Maine West 8 Lake Forest 6

Carly Romano totaled 5 goals and goalies Sarah Godawa and Tara Woodford combined to block 17 shots in Maine West's 8-6 triumph over Lake Forest. Emily Morrison also contributed on both ends of the pool with 2 goals and 5 steals in the winning effort for the Warriors.

 

Morton 10 Northside 7

Samantha Nunez scored 5 goals to lift Morton past Northside 10-7 on Wednesday.

 

Prospect 6 Buffalo Grove 1

Kallie Shields scored 3 goals and Lauren Broz stopped 10 shots as Prospect grinded out a 6-1 win over Buffalo Grove on Wednesday. Sam Morosan scored the lone goal for the Bison.

 

York 13 STC East 8

Carly Redmond poured in 7 goals and both Addy Ries and Perri Brinkmeier slotted in 2 scores as York downed STC East 13-8.
