GAME RECAPS (Thursday, March 15)

 

BOYS

Buffalo Grove 13 Meadows 3

Ian Rodriguez poured in 7 goals to lead the Bison to a 13-3 victory over the Mustangs in MSL East action. Kevin Fitzsimons led Meadows with 2 goals.

 

Conant 11 Hoffman 10

Alec Wojiechowski scored 3 times and Ryan Haman recorded 11 saves to help pave the way for Conant  to withstand a fierce challenge from their MSL West rivals and earn an 11-10 victory over Hoffman. Mike Desider and Sang Han both tallied 3 scores in the loss for the Hawks.

 

Glenbrook South 14 Maine East 3

JJ Connor scored 5 goals, Bob Meyer added 3 scores, and Tom Meyer blocked 13 shots as GBS defeated Maine East 14-3.

 

Lockport 16 STC North 4

Dave Hir tallied 5 scores and Dan Oldendorf scored 4 goals as the Porters disposed of the North Stars by a 16-4 score. Zach Trent also chipped in with 3 goals in the Lockport win. Joey Chokran led STC North with 2 goals in the losing effort.

 

Neuqua Valley 23 Waubonsie Valley 17

Will Russell recorded 7 goals to help lead Neuqua to a high-scoring 23-17 win over Waubonsie.

 

Niles West 15 Highland Park 11

Ryan Miller scored 5 goals and drew 5 ejections to lead Niles West to a 15-11 victory over Highland Park.

 

Sandburg 19 Hinsdale South 3

Michael O'Malley registered 6 scores in the Eagles 19-3 win over the Hornets on Thursday.

Fenwick 15 St Patrick 6

The Friars utilized a balanced offensive attack and a 7-0 run in the second quarter to pull away from the Shamrocks and earn a tournament-opening 15-6 win. Justin White, Matt Bresnahan, Matt Farmer, and Mike Mahoney each scored 2 times to lead the Friars. Jon Gutierrez and Luis Plascencia both totaled 2 goals in the loss.

 

Oak Park 9 Brother Rice 8

Nate Johnson recorded 4 goals and Mark Hallman added 2 scores as the Huskies used a 3-0 fourth period run to grab a surprise 9-8 win over Brother Rice on Thursday afternoon. The Crusaders, who trailed 3-0 after the opening quarter, outscored the Huskies 4-1 in the third period to take an 8-6 lead, but they could not hang on to their slim lead in the closing minutes. Mike Mulcrone registered 4 goals and Kevin Mayer tallied 2 scores in the loss for Rice.

 

Curie 14 Homewood-Flossmoor 9

Eduardo Chavez scored 4 goals to lead the Condors past H-F 14-9 on Thursday. Nick Thiros and Zach Peterson both scored 3 times in the loss for the Vikings.

 

Lyons 12 Stevenson 6

Kovas Zygas, Josh Hirt, and Sean McMahon each recorded 3 goals and Joe Shannon added 2 scores to help lift Lyons past Stevenson 12-6 on Thursday. Mitchell Sokolsky scored 3 times in the loss for the Patriots.

 

Lincoln-Way East 13 St Ignatius 11

The Griffins put together a strong second half performance to earn a 13-11 victory over St Ignatius in the tournament opener for both squads. Billy Barth scored 7 goals and Jesus Juarez added 2 scores in the loss for the Wolfpack.

 

Homewood-Flossmoor 12 St Patrick 10

Kevin Kuchta recorded 5 goals and Henry Weeks, Nick Thiros, and Zach Peterson all totaled 2 scores in H-F's 12-10 victory over St Patrick. Luke O'Callaghan notched 6 scores in the loss for the Shamrocks.


GIRLS

Barrington 9 Palatine 3

Kate Luedtke and Sam Gavars each scored 3 goals and Brooke Fanslow recorded 10 saves in Barrington beat Palatine 9-3 in an MSL West contest. Nicole Theis scored 2 times and Hannah Otis made 15 saves in the loss for the Pirates.

 

Conant 7 Hoffman 6

Kristi Burke scored 3 goals, Andie Cobb added 2 scores, and Jessica Davis stopped 15 shots as Conant edged Hoffman 7-6 in the MSL West. Kasia Serwin led the Hawks with 3 goals in the losing effort.

 

Evanston 14 Maine West 5

The Wildkits scored 7 times in each half to emerge with a 14-5 victory over Maine West in CSL play on Thursday. Carly Romano scored 2 goals and Sara Godawa and Tara Woodford combined to make 18 saves in the loss for the Hawks.

 

Fremd 9 Schaumburg 1

Sam del Prado recorded 3 goals, Sam Matuszewski put in 2 scores, and Julie Conrath made 13 saves in the Vikings' 9-1 win over the Saxons. Kristy Bessler tallied one score in the loss for Schaumburg.

 

Lockport 8 STC North 4

Megan Cavanaugh registered 3 scores and both Kathleen Reaney and Liz Latka scored 2 times as the Porters beat STC North 8-4. Claire Bultema and Mallory Hecht each scored 2 goals in the loss for the North Stars.

 

Lyons 20 Andrew 6

Blair Hopwood totaled 5 goals and Claire Curran scored 4 times in the Lions' 20-6 victory over Andrew. Megan Hofer led the T-Bolts with 3 scores in the loss.

 

Maine East 9 Glenbrook South 4

Isabelle Trier made 25 saves to help Maine East defeat Glenbrook South 9-4.

 

Metea Valley 8 Lincoln-Way West 6

Maria Palladino scored 5 goals to lead Metea Valley to an 8-6 triumph over LWW. Michelle Fairbairn tallied 2 scores in the loss for West.

 

Neuqua Valley 11 Waubonsie Valley 2

Courtney Taylor and Kaitlyn Gorski both recorded 3 goals to lift Neuqua past Waubonsie 11-2. Amanda Peart and Lauren Stercay each scored once in the loss for the Warriors.

 

Stevenson 11 Oak Park 4

Erin McCook tallied 5 goals and Cami Haas notched 3 scores in the Patriots' 11-4 win over OPRF. Claire Moschovas added 2 scores and Lisa Michalowski made 12 saves in the SHS victory. Hannah Legatze put in 3 goals for the Huskies in the losing effort.

 

Wheeling 4 Hersey 3

Leah Malsom slammed home 3 goals and Kat Dabrowski added one score to help Wheeling nick a 4-3 victory over Hersey in an MSL East contest.

 

York 14 Resurrection 7

Lauralee Johnson and Perri Brinkmeier each scored 4 times to help lift the Lady Dukes to a 14-7 victory over Resurrection in a nonconference matchup.

BOYS

MATCH OF THE DAY

Fenwick Tournament

The Friars annual tournament gets underway on Thursday night and boasts a 13-team field, with many of the top teams in the state of Illinois. Ten of the teams are in action on Thursday, with the hosts taking on rivals St Patrick in the opener at 4:30pm. The tournament runs until late Saturday.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

#14 Neuqua Valley at #19 Waubonsie Valley

The Wildcats look for a bit of revenge when they take on the Warriors on Thursday night; WV beat NV by a 16-14 score at the end of the Naperville Tournament last weekend.

 

 

GIRLS

MATCH OF THE DAY

#23 Schaumburg at #5 Fremd

The Saxons are one of the many challengers Fremd will need to fend off if they wish for another perfect season in the Mid-Suburban League. The two do battle in Palatine on Thursday at 5:30pm.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

#30 Waubonsie Valley at #21 Neuqua Valley

The Warriors hope to get their season on the right track when they go on the road to take on Neuqua on Thursday evening. The Wildcats won the first meeting between the two teams last weekend 12-4.
