TOURNAMENT

Metea Valley Comes On Strong To Win OPRF Tournament

Metea Valley returned to their pre-Spring Break form, winning three straight games on Saturday to win the Oak Park Tournament. The Mustangs earned wins over the hosts, LWN, and Wheeling; the 7-6 title game victory due in large part to the 26-save performance of goalie Sean Birkholz.

 

Wheeling took second place with wins over Marian and Schaumburg, while Oak Park edged the Saxons in overtime in the third-place game. LWN topped Marian 16-4 to claim fifth place.

 

Saturday's Game Recaps

Metea Valley 7 Oak Park 4

Lindsay Raczek and Mia Palladino both scored 2 times to help lead Metea Valley past the hosts 7-4 in the first game of the OPRF Tournament. Katie Appell scored 3 times and Zoe Erickson made 8 saves in the losing effort.

 

Schaumburg 12 Marian 8

Kristy Bessler scored 5 goals, Haven Aldridge added 4 scores, and Ashley Johnson totaled 8 steals to lift Schaumburg past Marian 12-8 in the opener for both teams at the Oak Park Tournament.

 

Metea Valley 9 Lincoln-Way North 6

Lizzie Hollopeter scored 4 times and both Lindsay Razack and Mia Palladino netted 2 scores in Metea's

9-6 win over LWN.

 

Wheeling 15 Schaumburg 7

Leah Malsom scored 6 goals to help lead Wheeling past Schaumburg 15-7. Rebecca Brow scored 3 times in the loss for the Saxons.

 

Oak Park 6 Lincoln-Way North 5

Elizabeth Williams and Samantha Robbins both notched 2 scores and Zoe Erickson made 9 saves to lift the Huskies past LWN 6-5 on Saturday.

 

Oak Park 7 Schaumburg 6 -OT- (3rd)

Katie Appell scored 5 goals as the hosts won a 7-6 overtime thriller over Schaumburg in the third-place game on Saturday. Casey Houts scored 2 goals, Ashley Johnson totaled 4 steals, and Robin Heitman made 9 saves in the losing effort for the Saxons.

 

Metea Valley 7 Wheeling 6 (1st)

Sean Birkholz blocked 26 shots in the title game of the Oak Park Tournament, helping the Mustangs edge Wheeling 7-6 on Saturday afternoon. Mia Palladino tallied 4 goals and Alex Conti added 2 scores for the Metea Valley offense in the win.
