NAPERVILLE CENTRAL TOURNAMENT

Sandburg Makes Things Interesting Before Winning NC Tournament
Cara Hays scored a triple-overtime game-winning goal in Sandburg's 6-5 win over Evanston to finish the Naperville Central Tournament with a 3-0 record; the goal came less than 24 hours after Hays scored two key fourth quarter goals in the Eagles' 6-5 win over the hosts. Sandburg also limited Jenison to one goal in a 7-1 win on Saturday en route to the tournament title. The Redhawks finished in second place after shutting out the Wildkits and beating Jenison for the second time in 2013. The visitors from Michigan shut down Evanston 4-0 on Friday night to cross the state border with one win.

 

Friday's Game Recaps

Jenison 4 Evanston 0

Jenison goalie Wixie Lehman and the Wildcats' defense held Evanston scoreless in a tournament-opening 4-0 win on Friday afternoon. Cori Brouwer scored 2 times and both Bri Brianconi and Summer Lukaart put in one score in the victory.

 

Sandburg 6 Naperville Central 5

Cara Hays scored twice in the fourth quarter to help Sandburg grab a 6-5 comeback win over Naperville Central on Friday night. After allowing four goals in the opening quarter, the Eagles' defense did not allow another score until the final period in the victory. Jenny Doyle and Madison Nervig both scored 2 times in the loss for the hosts.

 

Saturday's Game Recaps

Naperville Central 6 Evanston 0

Leslie Calabrese recorded 3 goals and Erin Reagan earned a shutout as the hosts defeated Evanston 6-0.

 

Sandburg 7 Jenison 1

Cara Hays and Sarah Dolitsky each registered 2 scores and Alona King allowed just one goal to help the Eagles beat Jenison 7-1. Rachel Byrnes scored the lone goal in the loss for the Michigan squad.

 

Sandburg 6 Evanston 5 (3 OT)

Cara Hays converted the game-winning goal just moments into the third overtime period as Sandburg got past Evanston 6-5. Hays and Sarah Dolitsky both scored 2 goals for the winners. Yasi Nassiri registered 4 scores in the loss for the Wildcats.

 

Naperville Central 5 Jenison 3

Sarah Borton totaled 2 scores and Kaela Codo, Madison Nervig, and Michelle Spaits each scored once as Naperville Central beat Jenison 5-3. Erin Reagan also made 8 saves in the win for the Redhawks.
