Weekend Recaps (4.28.07)

STEVENSON TOURNAMENT (BOYS)

Fenwick went 4-0 over the weekend, including wins over St Patrick and Brother Rice, to win the Stevenson Tournament title on Saturday night. The cruised to a 15-3 win over Lake Forest and a 21-3 victory over Mundelein on Friday night to advance to the first place bracket, where they would face their Catholic League rivals on Saturday. They beat St Patrick 11-5 for their second straight win against the Shamrocks, then finished off the night with a 9-2 win over Brother Rice to clinch the title. Rice beat St Patrick to claim second place in the championship bracket. Meanwhile, Naperville Central beat Oak Park, Mundelein, and Lake Forest to finish the weekend in fourth place, while Mundelein knocked off Oak Park in a shootout to claim fifth place. Stevenson beat Palatine 12-10 in the final game of the weekend to grab a seventh place finish.

 

LATIN TOURNAMENT (BOYS)

Naperville North defeated Latin, St Ignatius, and Waubonsie Valley to win the Latin Tournament on Saturday afternoon. Both Alex Buck and Conor Handley tallied 9 goals in three games to lead the Huskies on offense, while Bryan Kimbrell totaled 6 goals and Brandon Glynn added 5 scores in the tournament win. North defeated Waubonsie 8-4 in the early game, as Buck scored 3 to lead the team to the win. The Huskies then knocked off St Ignatius 12-5, with Buck, Handley, and Kimbrell each scored 3 times in the win. In the final game of the afternoon, North defeated Latin 14-3, with Handley leading the way on offense with 4 total goals.

 

LATIN TOURNAMENT (GIRLS)

Neuqua Valley went 3-0 at the Latin Tournament in Chicago on Saturday afternoon to win the tournament. Goalie Kayley Provow led the way for the Wildcats, as she recorded a total of 32 saves in three games, plus she added 10 steals and a goal as well. Neuqua earned a narrow 6-5 decision over Prospect in the morning game, followed by an 8-4 win over Latin and a 10-4 victory over Young. Kathleen Patterson led the Wildcats on the offensive end with 11 goals, while Chelsea Reczek totaled 6 goals for the three games and Kristen Trucco added 3 scores. The win helps Neuqua improve to 16-4 on the season.

 

LOYOLA 24 FREMD 16 (BOYS)

Nate LeRoy scored 9 goals and added 5 steals and 5 assists as Loyola defeated Fremd in a nonconference matchup on Saturday morning. Conor Dwyer also had a strong performance on the offensive end with 5 goals and 8 assists (and 5 steals).

NAPERVILLE NORTH 12 LINCOLN-WAY CENTRAL 3 (BOYS)

Conor Handley tallied 5 goals to lead the Huskies to a 12-3 win over Lincoln-Way Central on Thursday night. North took an 11-0 lead into the fourth quarter as they cruised to the win. Mark Tatara added 3 scores for the Huskies.

 

MT CARMEL 12 NORTHSIDE 10 (BOYS)

TJ Turnock scored 7 goals and Brendan Duhig added 5 goals as Mt Carmel defeated Northside 12-10 on Thursday evening.

 

NEW TRIER 14 LATIN 4 (BOYS)

Rick Farmer scored 4 goals and Ben Wampler, Sam Lopez, and Mark Saleh tallied 3 scores to help lead the Trevians to a 14-4 nonconference win over Latin on Thursday night. Sam Lopez scored once for New Trier in the win.

 

WAUBONSIE VALLEY 11 HINSDALE CENTRAL 8 (BOYS)

Kyle Drake recorded 4 goals and 2 assists (plus 6 steals) as Waubonsie Valley knocked off Hinsdale Central 11-8.

 

NEUQUA VALLEY 10 ST IGNATIUS 9 (GIRLS)

Kayley Provow scored the game-winning goal in a shootout as Neuqua Valley survived four overtimes to beat St Ignatius 12-11 on Thursday night. After Neuqua took a one goal lead after the first half of overtime, Ignatius tied the game and sent it into sudden death. Neither team could score in the next two extra sessions, leading to a shootout, which the Wildcats won 3-2. Provow also made 16 saves in the win, while Kristen Trucco scored 5 goals on the offensive end in the win. Kathleen Patterson added 3 goals and Chelsea Reczek scored twice for Neuqua Valley in the victory. Celeste Almarez scored 5 goals to lead the Wolfpack, while Kathleen Maloney scored 2 goals and Kate Brankin and Lydia Ridgeway each added one score. St Ignatius was playing without the services of hole set Nora Kennelly.

 

MOTHER MCAULEY 15 NAPERVILLE CENTRAL 11 (GIRLS)

Maggie Wood scored 7 goals to lead Mother McAuley to a 15-11 win over Naperville Central on Thursday night. Laura Perez and Lilly Gonzalez both scored 3 goals for McAuley in the win, while Kara Wilson and Nikki Nelson each scored 4 goals in the loss for the Redhawks.

 

LINCOLN-WAY EAST 6 SANDBURG 5 (GIRLS)

Rachel Japp recorded 3 goals to lead the Griffins to a 6-5 win over Sandburg in the SouthWest Suburban Conference contest on Thursday. East goalie Christine Menzenberger stopped 10 shots in the win, while Rachel Japp made 6 steals on the defensive end for the Griffins in the win.

 

MUNDELEIN 5 VERNON HILLS 2 (GIRLS)

Alice Denny scored 2 goals and Paige Neubel allowed only 2 scores as Mundelein defeated Vernon Hills 5-2 in the North Suburban Conference matchup.

OAK PARK 7 STEVENSON 6 (BOYS)

Mike Nickels scored 3 goals to lift the Huskies to a narrow 7-6 win over Stevenson on Wednesday. Tommy Poulos added 2 goals for Oak Park, while Huskies' goalie Isaac Rothenbaum stopped 6 shots in the win. Dmitriy Simonoff tallied 6 goals for the Patriots in the loss.

 

ANDREW 13 BREMEN 5 (BOYS)

Ian Hoppie led the Thunderbolts to a 13-5 win over Bremen as he recorded 3 goals and 2 steals on the offensive end. Goalies Scott Boutos and Matt Starzynski combined to stop 24 shots in goal for Andrew in the win.

 

SANDBURG 12 HOMEWOOD-FLOSSMOOR 5 (GIRLS)

Sam Cody recorded 6 goals and goalie Jenn Pasciak stopped 16 shots as Sandburg beat Homewood-Flossmoor 12-5 on Wednesday.

 

MCHENRY 11 HIGHLAND PARK 4 (BOYS)

Bill Dabrowski scored 4 goals and goalie Dusty Lang made 17 saves as McHenry toppled Highland Park 11-4.

 

EVANSTON 9 HIGHLAND PARK 3 (GIRLS)

Evanston used two 3-0 runs to pull away from Highland Park in a 9-3 victory on Wednesday evening. Alex Wich led the way for the Wildkits with 3 goals in the win.

 

LOCKPORT 14 LINCOLN-WAY CENTRAL 4 (GIRLS)

Rachel Lardner scored 6 goals and Maggie Knowles and Nikki Giertych both tallied 4 goals as Lockport defeated Lincoln-Way Central 14-4 on Wednesday. Kayleee Meyers scored twice for the Knights in the loss.

 

MUNDELEIN 14 PALATINE 3 (GIRLS)

Mundelein led 8-0 at halftime and cruised to a 14-3 win over Palatine on Wednesday night as Siobhan Larsen scored 6 goals for the Mustangs in the win. Paige Neubel added 3 scores in playing out of the net in the first half for Mundelein.

 

MARIAN 13 HINSDALE SOUTH 11 (GIRLS)

Megan McDonnell led the Spartans with 7 goals as they knocked off Hinsdale South 13-11 in nonconference action on Wednesday evening. Annie Anderson added 8 steals for Marian on the defensive end in the victory.

Alex Buck recorded 7 goals to lead Naperville North to a 17-8 win over Lyons on Tuesday night.

 

NEW TRIER  OAK PARK (BOYS)

Rick Farmer scored 7 goals to lead New Trier to an 11-7 victory over Oak Park. Dylan O’Connell and Tommy Poulos scored 2 goals each in the loss, while goalie Isaac Rothenbaum made 13 saves for the Huskies.

 

MUNDELEIN 11 FREMD 3 (BOYS)

Mundelein jumped out to a 5-0 lead and rolled to an 11-3 win over Fremd on Tuesday, as Grant Gates scored 4 goals for the Mustangs in the win.

 

ST RITA 11 LATIN 9 (BOYS)

Mitch Condon and Cliff Oskvarek each scored 3 goals to help lift St Rita past Latin 11-9 on Tuesday. Jim Mlynarski recorded 19 saves in the win.

 

LOYOLA 15 PALATINE 9 (BOYS)

Nate LeRoy scored 10 goals to lead the Ramblers to a 15-9 victory over Palatine on Tuesday night in nonconference action. Matt Stonequist also added 4 goals for Loyola, while Mitch Tucker and Whitaker Davis tallied 4 goals each for Palatine in the loss.

 

LINCOLN-WAY EAST 8 ANDREW 4 (BOYS)

Zack VanSwol and Kevin Kubik each recorded 2 goals as Lincoln-Way East jumped out to a 5-1 halftime lead en route to an 8-4 win over Andrew. Ryan Golden made 17 saves for the Griffins in the win.

 

WHEELING 13 MAINE EAST 7 (BOYS)

Ade Nolla tallied 4 goals and Eric Maczko added 3 scored to help Wheeling defeat Maine East 13-7 on Tuesday.

 

CONANT 14 ST CHARLES EAST 8 (BOYS)

Mike Varga 5 goals and Brendan Connolly 4 goals lead the Cougars in the win over the visiting Saints.  Frank Savegnago had 4 goals for the Saints in the loss.

 

SANDBURG 13 MT CARMEL 7 (BOYS)

Max Kryzminski scored 5 goals to lead the Eagles to a 13-7 win over Mt Carmel on Tuesday evening.

 

OAK PARK 12 NEW TRIER 7 (GIRLS)

Val Poulos and Audrey Reardon each scored 5 goals as Oak Park pulled out a 12-7 win over New Trier. Megan Rigali and Lauren Gumbel both added a goal, while goalie Melissa Maslowski had 5 saves in the win.

 

LYONS 11 NAPERVILLE NORTH 0 (GIRLS)

Goalies Carrie DeBoer and Emily Bornhoff teamed up for a shutout as Lyons knocked off Naperville North 11-0.

 

LINCOLN-WAY EAST 6 ANDREW 5 (GIRLS)

Laura Cempel totaled 3 goals and goalie Christine Menzenberger stopped 8 shots to lead the Griffins to a 6-5 win over Andrew on Tuesday night.

 

ROLLING MEADOWS 17 GLENBROOK SOUTH 4 (GIRLS)

Kendall Hylton recorded 8 goals and Colleen Briggs added 7 scores as Rolling Meadows defeated Glenbrook South 17-4. Rosie Fischl scored 2 times in the loss for GBS.

 

LAKE FOREST 12 GLENBROOK NORTH 8 (GIRLS)

Joy Corona tallied 7 goals and Laura McClenahan added 3 scores as Lake Forest defeated Glenbrook North 12-8 on Tuesday night.

Chris DeLetto scored 4 goals and recorded 4 steals to help lift Glenbrook South to a 12-11 win over Hinsdale Central on Monday afternoon. Andrew Schmitt and Ben Hengels each totaled 3 goals in the victory for GBS.

 

HOMEWOOD-FLOSSMOOR 15 LINCOLN-WAY CENTRAL 5 (BOYS)

Dave Kuchta scored 6 goals and Greg Nelson added 5 scores to lead the Vikings to a 15-5 victory over Lincoln-Way Central in the SouthWest Suburban Conference on Monday evening.

 

PALATINE 16 VERNON HILLS 2 (BOYS)

Palatine goalie Spencer Blackham saved 21 shots to help lead Palatine to a 16-2 win over Vernon Hills on Monday. Mitch Tucker led the Pirates on offense with 5 goals, while Luciano Formilan added 3 goals in the win for Palatine.

 

MUNDELEIN 17 YORK 6 (GIRLS)

Siobhan Larsen led the Mustangs with 8 goals in a 17-6 nonconference win over York on Monday. Mundelein took a 5-0 lead in the opening quarter and never looked back in the victory, as Maura Coughlin, Allie Fedro, and Alice Denny each totaled 2 goals in the win for the Mustangs.

 

OAK PARK 7 NAPERVILLE NORTH 3 (GIRLS)

Audrey Reardon recorded 3 goals, 2 steals, and an assist to help lift Oak Park to a 7-3 nonconference victory over Naperville North on Monday night. Val Poulos scored 2 times and goalie Melissa Maslowski recorded 10 saves for the Huskies in the win.

 

WHEELING 6 VERNON HILLS 3 (GIRLS)

Angelica Stanizewska tallied 2 goals to lead Wheeling to a 6-3 victory over Vernon Hills on Monday night. Britten Wilson, Stephanie Williams, Liseli Baich, and Christa Khatcherian also notched goals in the win for the Wildcats.

 

LOCKPORT 10 STAGG 9 (GIRLS)

Rachel Lardner scored 6 goals and added 2 assists to lead Lockport to a 10-9 victory over Stagg in the SWSC on Monday. Maggie Knowles and Nikki Giertych both scored twice in the win for the Porters.

 

LAKE FOREST 11 PALATINE 6 (GIRLS)

Jot Corona scored 5 goals to lead the Scouts to an 11-6 win over Palatine on Monday. Devan Osborn chipped in 3 goals for Lake Forest in the victory.
