Week 2 Summary

The following is a summary of what took place during the second week of the season. This is not a complete list and we can only include a few people in this summary, but the purpose is to recognize a few of the best performances from each week.

 

Players To Watch

Boys - Brent Caras (Fremd)

Led the Vikings' to a 12-6 win over Conant on Thursday.

Boys - Matt Block (Buffalo Grove)

Scored 3 times in an overtime win over Prospect and tallied 5 scores in a win over Lake Forest.

Girls - Kirby Kaptur (Lyons)

Kaptur scored 4 goals to help Lyons beat Sandburg in overtime.

Girls - Michelle Mayer (Homewood-Flossmoor)

Impressive performance at the NC Tourney included 4 goals in the Vikings' 9-7 win over Oak Park.

 

Biggest Impact

Boys - Mike Byron (Barrington)

Has helped Barington start the season 9-2 in 2009.

Boys - Ben Hengels (Glenbrook South)

Led GBS with 7 goals in their Friday night victory over Evanston.

Girls - Morgan Bonk (Fenwick)

Scored 7 goals in Fenwick's 14-5 victory over Mother McAuley.

Girls - Kara Nowakowski (Lincoln-Way East)

Nowakowski scored three goals, including the game-winner, as the Griffins defeated Andrew on Wednesday.

 

Top Goalie Performances

Boys - Kevin Cordes (Neuqua Valley)

Cordes stopped 16 shots in the Wildcats' win over Waubonsie Valley.

Boys - Alex Gastevich (St Ignatius)

Made 9 saves and limited Young to just 4 scores in the Wolfpack's 10-4 win on Wednesday.

Boys - Drew Duckett (Lockport)

Duckett totaled 32 saves in the Porters' 4-0 weekend performance at the Hinsdale Central Tournament.

Girls - Kaitlin Webb (Wheeling)

Made 12 saves in a shutout win over Rolling Meadows.

Girls - Janelle Bartman (Stevenson)

Bartman stopped 12 shots in the Patriots' 12-7 win over Oak Park.

 

Biggest Surprises

Boys - McHenry

Earned wins over GBS and Evanston over the weekend.

Boys - Barrington defeats Stevenson 9-6

Mike Byron scored 4 goals to lead the Broncos to the Lake County Tournament finals with a win over the Patriots.

Girls - Lindbloom

The girls' team earned their first win of the season over Morgan Park.

Spring Break begins for many schools, which could have an effect on team performances this week.
