PREGAME

-The teams are in the water for warm-ups and will get underway in about 20 minutes...

Brother Rice-Kennedy (G), Jackson, Mayer, Bachler, Disteldorf, Whalen, Birmingham

St Ignatius-Zymon (G), Glaab, Dowling, Barth, Reyes, Juarez, Hughes

 


 

PLAY-BY-PLAY

PERIOD 1

-Bachler scores quickly for the Crusaders, assisted by Mayer, as Rice leads 1-0

-Rice with a stop and then Zymon makes a save that the Crusaders will get another chance at

-Tough defensive stand again for Rice as they take over possession

-Birmingham turns the ball over, but again the Crusaders earn a steal at the other end

-The teams trade possessions both defenses have been in charge so far

-Hughes earns a steal and sets up the Ignatius' offense, Barth feeds Hughes into two meters...

...but his shot is denied by Kennedy!

-Jackson feeds Birmingham at two meters and he scores to make it 2-0

-Hughes draws an ejection but Bachler and Kennedy deny Glaab's shot from the left side

-Dowling draws an ejection and Juarez capitalizes to cut the lead to 2-1

-Zymon blocks Disteldorf's shot attempt on the next trip down for the Crusaders

-Kennedy makes a save on Glaab's shot at the end of the first period

BROTHER RICE 2 ST IGNATIUS 1

 

PERIOD 2

-Mayer wins the swim-off and starts their first possession with a one goal lead but nothing comes of it

-Zymon blocked Birmingham's first shot of the period

-Hughes draws an ejection and scores from the left side, assisted by Barth, and the game is tied at 2-2

-Whalen earns a steal at two meters for the Crusaders

-Bachler scores at the other end to put the Crusaders back ahead 3-2

-Dowling and Zymon team up to force a Rice turnover

-Whalen tips the ball to Jackson and Rice takes over possession

-The teams trade possessions again as we are locked in a one-goal game midway through period one

-Barth shoots from outside and it travels right wide of the goal

-The Crusaders force a turnover at two meters on an attempted entry pass to Dowling

-Rice turns it over at the other end and the Wolfpack go man-up; Hughes is denied by Kennedy!

-Whalen shoots from inside five meters put it goes wide right

-Dowling tries a lob from the left side that goes over the goal

-Reyes and Dowling combine to make a steal, but Barth has a shot go over the goal for SICP

-Hughes earns a steal to give Ignatius the last chance of the half

-Whalen tips Reyes's shot over the goal and both Kennedy and Zymon heave shots that come to nothing

BROTHER RICE 3 ST IGNATIUS 2

 

PERIOD 3

-Barth wins the ball for the Wolfpack but they turn it over relatively quickly

-Hughes attempts a lob from two meters but it just goes too far left of the corner and Kennedy grabs it

-Mayer assists Disteldorf who scores from four meters after an ejection

-Barth immediately responds with a skip shot to make it 4-3

-After an ejection, Reyes kept the play alive and allowed Hughes to score from the point; 4-4 tie

-Disteldorf makes a steal to prevent an Ignatius chance

-Kennedy blocks Hughes' outside shot attempt as we are midway through the third period

-Barth crosses a pass from left-to-right and Reyes scores to the left corner; 5-4 Ignatius

-After a timeout, Birmingham's two-meter attempt is saved by Zymon

-Kennedy blocks Glaab's shot and Rice takes over possession

-The shot clock expires on the Crusaders but the Wolfpack turn it over quickly

-Whalen equalizes from outside and the score is tied at 5-5

-Jackson's third ejection leads to a powerplay goal for Reyes and SICP leads 6-5

-Birmingham hits the post on the other end; Disteldorf earns a steal for Rice

-The Ignatius defense holds and they lead 6-5 heading into the final period

ST IGNATIUS 6 BROTHER RICE 5

 

PERIOD 4

-Rice starts with it...but they cannot get a good shot on goal and Ignatius takes over

-Offensive foul on Dowling and the Crusaders have an early chance to tie the game

-Another offensive foul on Rice and we are getting closer and closer to crunch time

-Reyes feeds Barth and his backhand finds the back of the net to give Ignatius a 7-5 lead!

-Kennedy makes a save and Dowling then lobs over the goal for Ignatius

-Dowling's help-defense gets the ball back in Ignatius' favor

-Ignatius can't connect on their next chance but Disteldorf is denied a shot at the other end

-Kennedy saves Glaab's skip shot

-Zymon blocks a shot and passed ahead to Reyes who puts Ignatius ahead 8-5 with a breakaway goal!

-Mayer gets inside position and answers to cut the lead to 8-6

-The teams trade possessions but Rice has it with less than three minutes to go trailing by two

-Brother Rice timeout

-Whalen nicks the post but Zymon collects the rebound and Ignatius still leads by two

-Juarez!!!!!!!!! He puts the Wolfpack ahead 9-6 with 1:41 left to play

-Reyes and Bachler trade steals and Rice takes a timeout

-Rice needs three goals in one minute to try and tie the game after the timeout

-Dowling with a steal but Omastiak gets the ball and feeds Mayer but his shot hits the post!

-Ignatius looks to run the clock down

-The Crusaders get it back with ten seconds left but Hughes earns a steal to secure the 9-6 victory!
