In the game, Schaumburg jumped out to a 4-2 halftime lead behind goals by Mike Kehoe, Mark Rosenblum, Aaron Johnson, and Pat Kraulis. Leon scored on a breakaway goal to narrow the gap to 3-2, then Ridgeway assisted Almarez on a goal from the left side to tie the score at 3-3 heading into the second quarter. After Sandburg goalie Stephanie Pouder made a remarkable save on a 7-meter shot, Leon scored on a right-side drive with an assist by Maisie O'Malley to put the Wolfpack ahead for the first time 4-3. Week 2 updates: Rankings, Week 2 Super Ballers, Week 2 Ballers and The Illpolo Report

Rankings Update

BOYS' TOP 25  - The only certainty in the boys' rankings is Fenwick at the top spot. The Fenwick Tournament caused a shakeup at the top of the rankings, as Naperville North's wins over Naperville Central and Lincoln-Way East push them to the #2 spot. Naperville Central defeated Lincoln-Way East at an all-deep pool to move those two teams to #3 and #4, respectively. Mundelein makes a major jump to #5 after beating Stevenson at the Lake County Tournament and improving to 5-0 on the season. Sandburg beat Lyons in overtime to move up to #6, Stevenson drops to #7 after their second loss of the year, and Homewood-Flossmoor's 8-7 victory over Brother Rice puts them at the #8 spot. Brother Rice and Lyons are tied for #9, as they tied each other twice over the weekend. In other changes, Neuqua Valley fell to #11 after losing to Brother Rice and Lyons, St Rita beat St Patrick to move the Mustangs up to #12 and drop the Shamrocks to #13. Waubonsie Valley suffered the biggest drop to #23 after falling to 1-5 on the season with losses this week to McHenry and Neuqua Valley. Lockport moved to #19 after winning the Hinsdale Central Tournament and knocking off St Ignatius this week. McHenry moved up to #20, St Ignatius moved to #21 after beating Evanston, while the Wildkits fell to #22 after two losses at their own tournament to Glenbrook South and St Ignatius. Conant is at #24 after improving to 8-0 and Stagg to #25 after getting their record to 8-3 and beating Andrew this weekend.

GIRLS' TOP 25 - The changes in the girls' rankings came on the bottom half of the poll, as Waubonsie Valley's second win over Neuqua Valley moved theWarriors up to #14 and dropped the Wildcats down to #16. Mundelein remains undefeated and moves to the #12 spot, Oak Park fell to #13 after falling to 3-3, and Fremd moves into the Top 20 to the #19 position. Andrew lost to Fremd and ends up at #20, Buffalo Grove lost to Prospect and Fremd and ends up at #22, while Richards fell to #24 after a loss to Bremen on Friday night.

Week 2 Update #1 - SECTIONAL ASSIGNMENTS RELEASED

By Aaron Brown

Monday, March 10, 2008 10:45pm

Below are the links to the sectional assignments for both boys and girls:

Boys Sectional Assignments

Girls Sectional Assignments

Illpolo.com Notes

***For the first time since 2002, St Patrick is not in the same sectional as Fenwick. The Shamrocks head to York and are currently the only Top 25 team in that sectional.

***With UIC not hosting a sectional, the IHSA reverted back to some of the original assignments from 2002, placing St Ignatius and Latin in the Fenwick Sectional along with Oak Park and Fenwick. That puts four Top 25 teams in the same sectional on both the boys' and girls' sides, including two of the top five girls teams.

***Sandburg's boys team finally gets placed in a sectional with the other teams from their area, causing a potential showdown between teams like Lincoln-Way East, Homewood-Flossmoor, Andrew, Sandburg, and Lockport at the TBA Sectional.

***The Sandburg girls team once again gets sent to a different site than their boys' team, as they will have to play at Lyons against Mother McAuley, Lyons, and Richards.

***Evanston's boys team returns to the GBN Sectional after playing at UIC last year. This sets up an evenly matched sectional which includes New Trier, Loyola, Glenbrook South, and Evanston, all of which are Top 25 teams.

***The sectionals at Neuqua Valley, Vernon Hills, and Hoffman Estates (new site, same area) look almost exactly the same as the last several years.
