2008 Season Update #6 - Water Polo Season Gets Underway on Monday, February 25

    Monday, February 25, 2008 7:50am

PLAINFIELD, IL – February 25 marks the official start of the high school water polo season in Illinois. One week of practice and tryouts start things off, with the first official games slated for next Monday, March 3. Some teams began official practices this morning, while others will wait until this afternoon once school is over. Here are some additional site notes as we head into the spring season:
    • The final part of the site that has yet to be completely updated is the schedules. These will be done and posted sometime before the first weekend of the season and most definitely before the first games take place.
    • All-Illpolo Teams, rankings, and season previews are now completely updated on the site. In terms of accuracy, if there are any corrections that need to be made (graduated player mentioned, misspelled names, et al.) please let us know.
    • Keep in mind that the opinions expressed on Illpolo.com are just that...opinions. You may disagree with the ranking of a certain team or player on one of our lists, but these are merely our opinions and not official. The best advice that I can give us to take everything regarding rankings or the All-Illpolo Teams "with a grain of salt" and merely use that part of the site as a reference.
    • Finally, please support the site and ensure that we can continue providing the best coverage possible. Scroll down to the bottom of the page for more information on how to donate to Illpolo.com. We can definitely use your help!

    2008 Season Update #3 - Rankings Posted

    Saturday, February 9, 2008 12:09pm

PLAINFIELD, IL – The top 25 rankings as well as the overall season rankings have been updated for 2008. Soon to follow will be the All-Illpolo Teams, preseason previews, and the 2008 schedule. Remember, these rankings are the opinion of this web site and we rank the teams based on the information we have about the upcoming season. The overall rankings will likely see a big shakeup in 2008, as there are a lot of question marks for this upcoming season. We will try to explain our Top 25 rankings in the preseason previews, which should be completed by the end of next week.

2008 Season Update #2 - Sectional Host Updates

    Wednesday, February 6, 2008 7:20am

PLAINFIELD, IL – Sectional hosts have been announced on the IHSA web site for the 2008 season. The sites are the same for boys and girls and can be located here. Even with the early release of the sites, there is still a great deal that needs to be determined. One site is still listed as TBA, though it is likely to be located somewhere in the South suburban area (Lincoln-Way East or Central???). UIC is not listed as a host, while both Fenwick and York are hosting sectionals, two major changes that could shake up the usual sectional assignments. Hoffman Estates takes over hosting duties from Palatine in the Northwest Suburbs, though both pools are designed in the same way.

Assuming that UIC does not host a sectional and that one of the Lincoln-Way schools ends up hosting a sectional in the South Suburban area, there are many changes that could result from this announcement. With Fenwick, Lyons, and York all within close proximity, where will some of the teams who have missed out on state over the past several years end up? Will Fenwick and St. Patrick end up in different sectionals this year? Where will St Ignatius and Latin be placed if there is no sectional in Chicago? Will Sandburg end up in the same sectional as Mother McAuley for the fifth straight year? We'll try to answer these questions and the handful of others that may come up as a result of these changes as soon as any other news is reported.

One additional note...the stories on this blog and on the site will list the city that they originated from, just like in newspaper and AP reports. I live in Plainfield and work in Bolingbrook, so that is the reason that those two cities will appear frequently on the site. This just lets the reader know whether or not the reporter was on the scene at a game, tournament, or meeting or if they came from somewhere away from the site where the news took place.

    2008 Season Update #1

    Monday, January 21, 2008 8:54pm

BOLINGBROOK, IL – Over the past week, we have updated the site for the 2008 season. All previous information from the last five seasons can be located by using the links at the top of the page. Thus far, we are working the kinks out and trying to update all of the current season's information (dates, times, etc). Once that is complete and all of the advertisements and sponsor logos and links are updated on the site, we will move forward with the All-Illpolo Teams, schedules, rankings, and everything else for 2008. Bear with us, locating and updating the entire season schedule for over 120 teams (boys and girls combined) can be quite time consuming, but we should hopefully have that done somewhere before Valentine's Day as the season quickly approaches.

For now, updated schedules would be extremely helpful and can be sent via e-mail to illpolo2007@yahoo.com. Other team information is also helpful, whether it be team information, coaching changes, or any other news we should know about. As always, comments from players or parents (or other fans) are greatly appreciated, especially if it can help us provide better coverage for the upcoming season.

Finally, we definitely need as much financial help as possible to help operate this web site. Read the following post about making donations to help Illpolo.com supply the best water polo coverage in the state in 2008.

    Donations Needed To Support Illpolo.com

    Sunday, January 20, 2008 1:24 pm

PLAINFIELD, IL – I need your help! My mission is to ensure that the sport gets the proper coverage that these boys and girls deserve, starting with this web site and hopefully moving towards the newspapers. I will do everything I can to make this happen, but if I could get some assistance I would be greatly appreciative.

I don't know how long I can keep this pace up...the cost of web hosting, wireless Internet, domains, travel expenses, gas, and the time spent volunteering can be very difficult when all is said and done. To make a donation, have an advertisement placed on the site, or to become a sponsor, either click the PayPal link or read the following contact information:

Any donations can be made to No Limit Water Polo, which is a not-for-profit organization. If you are interested in helping out or have questions, you can contact me by e-mail at illpolo2007@yahoo.com, by phone at (847) 331-6520, or by sending mail to:
