The Starting VII

Week 8

By Aaron Brown

Seven things to look for in the Week 8 of the 2009 season:

I. Stevenson Tournament (Boys)

Stevenson's annual tournament contains four of the top five teams in the state, including undefeated Fenwick. Friday night's preliminary round action includes a 6:10pm game between #2 Naperville Central and #3 Oak Park.

II. St Ignatius at Stevenson (Girls)

The #2 ranked Wolfpack face another test as they travel to Stevenson to take on the #8 Patriots on Monday night at the site of this year's state tournament.

III. Loyola at Evanston (Boys)

Loyola earned the top seed at the GBN sectional by beating GBS and New Trier; they will look to do the same against another contender at that sectional when they head to Evanston on Tuesday night. The Wildkits will be looking for a key win and valuable momentum as the CSL Tournament and sectionals are fast approaching.

IV. McAuley at Naper Central
(Girls)

#7 Mother McAuley begins a difficult week as they head to Naperville to take on the fourth-ranked Redhawks on Tuesday.

V. LWE at Neuqua (Boys)

The #7 Griffins and #6 Wildcats meet in Naperville on Wednesday night as both teams prepare for difficult sectional competitions in two weeks time.

VI.

Naperville Central at Lyons (Boys)

#2 Naperville Central will look to bounce back after last week's loss to Fenwick, while #4 Lyons will be looking to show they are ready to make another state qualifying run in 2009.

VII. McAuley at Stevenson
(Girls)

#7 Mother McAuley and #8 Stevenson each face their second tough tests of the week, as the Mighty Macs and Patriots meet in Lincolnshire on Thursday evening.
