FENWICK TOURNAMENT

The Friars' annual tournament begins with six preliminary round games on Thursday evening. Fenwick and H-F get things started at 4:30pm, followed by a showdown between Curie and Oak Park. Third-ranked Lyons battles St Patrick, Brother Rice takes on LWE, St Ignatius matches up with Stevenson, and the night concludes with the two losing teams from the first two games doing battle.

The Porters started their season with a win on Tuesday night, but they face a difficult test when they head to St Charles to take on the North Stars in a nonconference battle between Top 25 teams.

FENWICK TOURNAMENT

Fenwick 13 Homewood-Flossmoor 6

Danny Farmer netted 5 goals and Mike Hill saved 8 shots as the Friars began their own tournament with a 13-6 victory over H-F in a state quarterfinal rematch from 2013. Eight other Fenwick players scored once in the winning effort, helping the squad improve to 5-0 in 2014. Broc Thompson and Haden Santefort each scored 2 goals in the loss for the Vikings.

 

Oak Park 7 Curie 4

Mark Hallman registered 3 goals, Josh Gronwold put in 2 scores, and both Alex West and Lawrence Cozzi added one goal in OPRF's 7-4 victory over Curie. Oscar Hernandez tallied 2 scores and both Ivan Ariza and Jeronimo Chavez each scored once in the loss.

 

Lyons 8 St Patrick 7

Nathan Kriha scored 4 goals and George Duffy notched 2 scores as the Lions held off St Patrick 8-7 on Thursday.

 

Brother Rice 15 Lincoln-Way East 5

Peter Gurka recorded 4 goals and both Dan Whalen and Matt Bachler contributed 3 scores as Brother Rice bounced back from a loss to St Rita by beating LWE 15-5 on Thursday evening. Luke Healy also scored 2 times in the win for the Crusaders. Nate Drewes led the Griffins with 3 scores in the team's first contest of the new campaign.

 

St Ignatius 10 Stevenson 7

Billy Barth poured in 8 goals and both Jesus Juarez and Tom Dowling chipped in with one score as SICP defeated Stevenson 10-7. Andrew Shashin and Mitchell Sokolsky each registered 2 scores in the loss for the Patriots.

 

Curie 13 Homewood-Flossmoor 8

Jeronimo Chavez notched 8 goals and Ivan Ariza added 5 scores to lift the Condors to a 13-8 triumph over H-F. Marcus Perry led the Vikings' offense with 2 scores in the losing effort.

Glenbrook South 7 Maine East 4

Jake Nelson tallied 3 scores, Brant Boczek added 2 goals, and Matt Cubelic saved 11 shots in the Titans' 7-4 win over Maine East.

 

Lockport 6 STC North 4

Jake Speechley led the Porters with 3 goals as they earned their second straight win of the new season by fending off STC North 6-4. John Pretet and Nick Traxler each scored 2 goals and Collin Bawolek made 12 saves in the losing effort for North.

 

Neuqua Valley 14 Waubonsie Valley 9

Simon Shatinsky recorded 5 goals and both Lucas Becker and Scott DePuy netted 3 goals as the Wildcats defeated Waubonsie Valley 14-9 on Thursday night.

 

Sandburg 17 Hinsdale South 4

Zach Roper notched 6 goals, Mitch Zieler netted 5 goals, and Sean McNicholas blocked 11 shots to help the Eagles earn a 17-4 victory over Hinsdale South. Majd Ibrahim also scored 2 times in the win for the visitors.

Stevenson 9 Oak Park 8

Melissa Gartenberg recorded 6 goals to help the Patriots stave off a feisty challenge from visiting OPRF to earn a 9-8 win on Thursday in Lincolnshire. Annika Hotchkiss, Alexa Koltyar, and Ashley Oliver each put in one score in the winning effort, while Becky Callen blocked 12 shots for the hosts. Gena Curry and Katie Appell both scored 3 goals, Jilly Cronin notched 2 goals, and goalie Jordin Hale blocked 9 shots in the loss for the Huskies.

 

OTHER KEY GAMES

Libertyville 14 Conant 13

Madison Griffith scored the game-winning goal with 1:30 remaining and the Wildcats' defense shut down the Cougars the rest of the way as Libertyville defeated Conant 14-13. Sarah Durning notched 7 scores to lead the Wildcats' offense. Maddy Demaret helped keep the Cougars close with 19 saves, while Carmen Rosas scored 5 goals and Angie Skittone netted 4 scores in the losing effort.

 

Lincoln-Way East 18 Lincoln-Way North 7

Aimee Schaff, Haley McCabe, and Zoe Zpada each scored 4 times and Jill Connolly stopped 11 shots as the Griffins knocked off LWN 18-7.

 

Maine West 17 Richards 10

Carly Romano scored 6 times, Holly Wasicak and Kristen Burger each netted 3 scores, and both Annie Pichiotti and Emily Morrison scored 2 goals in the Warriors' 17-10 win over Richards. Morrison also led the defense with 8 steals and contributed 5 assists to the winning cause.

 

Neuqua Valley 15 Waubonsie Valley 1

Morgan Miller totaled 6 goals and Issi French made 9 saves and allowed just one goal as the Wildcats got past Waubonsie Valley 15-1 on Thursday. Lauren Backe also registered 4 scores in the winning effort for NVHS.

 

Northside 7 Curie 3

Marti Hale scored 5 goals and Megan Davis made 13 saves to lead the Mustangs to a 7-3 win over Curie. Jennifer Villanueva tallied 3 scores in the loss for the Condors.

 

Sandburg 11 Bremen 7

The Eagles outscored the Red Jaguars 5-1 down the stretch to break a 6-6 tie and emerge with an 11-7 victory over Bremen on Thursday night. Danielle Lencioni and Sarah Dolitsky each recorded 4 goals and Stephanie Pappas netted 3 scores in the win for Sandburg. Caitlin Krull also blocked 13 shots in the win for the victors.

 

STC North 10 Lockport 1

Katie Quinn registered 5 goals and Nicole Guyett totaled 2 scores and 6 assists to help lead STC North to a 10-1 triumph over Lockport. Katie Difiglio also scored 2 times, Katie Steele netted one goal, and goalie Allyson Foor stopped 11 shots for the North Stars.

 

Vernon Hills 16 Deerfield 10

Lauren Wood recorded 7 goals and Lisa Cheng notched 4 scores as the Cougars downed Deerfield 16-10.
