Will the Shamrocks have the 'luck of the Irish' on their side when they travel to play St Viator on Monday in a St Patrick's Day contest or will the Lions continue their positive start with a second straight Catholic League victory?

The defending champions continue their tough early season slate as they travel to McAuley to take on their Catholic League rivals, who they edged in last May's semifinal round by one goal. The Mighty Macs can never be underestimated, as they knocked off the Wolfpack to win last year's MCAC Tournament and would love to gain the early momentum in the season series with their familiar foes.

The Dukes head to Mundelein for a difficult road contest against a Mustangs team looking to keep their winning streak alive after beating both Latin and McHenry on Saturday afternoon.

St Ignatius 15 Brother Rice 6

Billy Barth recorded 5 goals, Shane Hughes netted 4 scores, and John Reyes put in 3 goals as St Ignatius defeated Brother Rice 15-6. Tym Zymon also stopped 10 shots and contributed 4 assists in the winning effort for the Wolfpack.

 

OTHER KEY GAMES

Andrew 17 R-B 6

Eric Tamulonis totaled 6 goals and 9 steals and Alex Gacek scored 3 times as the T-Bolts used a 9-3 run in the second quarter to pull away from the Bulldogs to earn a 17-6 win on Monday night. Tim Yara and Zach Renter each added 2 scores, while Yara and Sean Reilly combined to make 7 saves in the win. Paul Sitkiewicz recorded 4 goals in the loss for the hosts.

 

Barrington 11 Fremd 8

Chase Lesniak tallied 4 scores, Sam Miseyka notched 3 goals, and Marshall Mathias totaled 2 scores as the Broncos built a 6-1 halftime lead en route to an 11-8 conference win over Fremd. Nick Cogswell and Theo Papadimitriou each added one goal in the victory.

 

DLS 16 Morton 5

Robert Rodriguez poured in 7 goals and the trio of Angelo Espinoza, Diego Leanos, and Jeremy Siegel each scored 2 times in the Meteors 16-5 triumph over Morton. Andy Behena, Daniel Clark, and Omar Gomez each scored once for the victors.

 

Fenwick 12 St Rita 5

Danny Farmer registered 4 goals and both Lucas Kotnik and Ryan Masi netted 2 scores as Fenwick topped St Rita 12-5. Mike Hill also blocked 10 shots in the Friars' win.

 

Hersey 16 Buffalo Grove 6

Jack Carroll notched 5 scores, Jake Hall scored 4 times, and J Maxwell blocked 9 shots as the Huskies got past the Bison 16-6 in an MSL East contest. Brandon Hausfeld tallied 3 scores in the loss for BG.

 

Loyola 19 Mt Carmel 0

Ragen Murphy scored 4 times and the trio of Andrew Hodur, George Harris, and Jack Schermerhorn each notched 2 scores in the Ramblers' 19-0 shutout victory over Mt Carmel. Trevor Prince earned his first career shutout, which was also Loyola's first since 2007.

 

McHenry 18 STC East 5

Matt Peck and Rebecca Dabrowski each tallied 4 scores to help lead McHenry past STC East 18-5. Jackson Smith also recorded 3 goals, while Kevin Braun and Myles Lucas both registered 2 scores in the win.

 

Morgan Park 23 Lindblom 12

Christian Cooper recorded 7 goals and made 7 saves and both Kerry Jones and Marcellus Freeman put in 4 scores in Morgan Park's 23-12 triumph over Lindblom.

 

Mundelein 10 York 9

Jude Krauss scored 4 goals and Andrew Gray tallied 3 scores as Mundelein edged York 10-9 on Monday. Art Kasamets, Kyle Siebert, and Jeremy Westgate also added one score apiece in the Mustangs' third straight win. Wil Hubert recorded 4 goals in the narrow loss for the Dukes.

 

Palatine 16 Hoffman 6

Wally Kleinfeldt scored 5 goals and drew 3 ejections to lead Palatine past Hoffman 16-6 on Monday in a MSL West contest. Omar El Hoffi scored 4 times, while Kristian Kalev and Mike Yurcheshen each tallied 2 scores in the Pirates' win.

 

Prosser 20 Ogden 4

Michael Ruiz registered 5 goals and both Christoper Gonzalez and Kalvin Aguilar notched 4 scores to help Prosser beat Ogden 20-4.

 

Sandburg 10 Lincoln-Way North 4

The Eagles won their season-opener on Monday after fending off Lincoln-Way North 10-4. Zach Roper poured in 7 goals, Mitch Zieler notched 2 scores, and Mitchell Winkelman scored once in the win. Bobby Young, Nate Kies, Nate Pakosz, and Pat Kelly each scored once and Shamus Shields stopped 19 shots in the loss for the Phoenix.

 

Schaumburg 9 Conant 8 (OT)

James Birriel scored 5 goals, including the game-winner in overtime, and Robert Bach stopped 9 shots as the Saxons beat Conant 9-8 on Monday evening in the MSL West opener for both teams.

 

St Patrick 12 St Viator 5

The Shamrocks earned their second win of the season by going on the road to beat St Viator 12-5 in an MCAC fixture. In the loss, Keegan Finn scored 2 goals and Eric Sutton, Shea Boyer, and Tommy Madaras each scored once for the Lions.

 

Whitney Young 13 Northside 3

Dan Shumaker registered 5 goals and Hector Mendez totaled 4 scores in the Dolphins' 13-3 conference victory over Northside.

Carmen Rosas registered 7 goals and 7 steals and Maddy Demaret saved 15 shots to lead Conant past Schaumburg 14-7 in a MSL West contest on Monday. Angie Skittone, Emily Weingart, and Kaitlyn Claffey each added 2 scores in the Cougars' win. Brittany Vasquez scored 4 times and Becca Kasner tallied 2 scores in the loss for the host Saxons.

 

Palatine 24 Hoffman 5

Rachel Chumbook scored 9 goals and Kim Butler totaled 10 saves and 5 assists as Palatine knocked off Hoffman 24-5 on Monday. Caitlin McHugh, Caroline Wojtas, and Kristen Anderson each netted 3 scores and Lauren Rasor added 2 goals in the Pirates' win. Jessica Sullivan led the Hawks with 2 scores in the losing effort.

 

Prospect 14 Meadows 2

Mary Schiavone and Niki Neumann registered 4 goals apiece and both Danielle McAllister and Kirsten Chamberlain tacked on 2 goals in the Knights' 14-2 victory over Meadows.

 

Sandburg 19 Lincoln-Way North 10

Sarah Dolitsky netted 5 scores and both Danielle Lencioni and Stephanie Pappas put in 4 goals to help the Eagles earn a 19-10 victory over LWN. Morgan Bartelment blocked 11 shots, while Katie Flaherty, Mara O'Connor, and Tricia Mangila each added one goal apiece for the Eagles. Niki Beringer totaled 5 scores, Jess Larson tallied 3 scores, and Cassidy DeGraff notched 2 goals in the loss.

 

St Viator 12 Resurrection 5

The Lions went on the road to claim their first victory of the season, a 12-5 triumph over Resurrection in Catholic League play.

 

Whitney Young 4 Northside 3 (OT)

The Dolphins outlasted Northside 4-3 in a defensive battle that needed overtime to reach a conclusion. Northside took a 3-2 lead into the second overtime period, but Whitney Young scored two straight goals to seal the comeback win. Jessie Cronin scored 2 goals, both Fairie Hughes and Kennedy Baldwin put in one score, and goalie Nora Murphy made 9 saves and blocked a penalty shot in the fourth quarter for the Dolphins. Marti Hale scored 2 goals from the field and made 13 stops in goal, while Rebekah Kissel also tallied one score in the losing effort.
